MSE is by far the best site I have ever found for competitions. :T

    In terms of:

    Number of comps posted.
    Answers to competitions questions.
    A friendly community spirit.
Being free from adverts and sponsored links.
Being free from links to gambling sites.
Telling you which comps are likely to generate spam.
    No "restricted" forums.
No policing of open forums to prevent you from helping people there.
    No heavy censorship.
No claiming public comps are "our property" just because we post them.

I find the best way to use sites like loquax and prizefinder is to visit near the end of the month and list closing comps to see if there are any that have been missed here. From experience however there are rarely any significant comps that haven't already been posted on MSE.

I once had other forum users getting funny with me for mentioning MSE actually. I only had done because someone had asked me where I'd won things from, I wasn't advertising it or making any comment that I thought it was better or anything. The attitude seems to be if you're a Loquat you're meant to be ONLY a Loquat.

I think what you'll find is you were accusing someone on Loquax of stealing your posting from here and trying to pass it off as their own on Loquax. It seems a lot of people here feel to do the same in reverse very acceptable but if you read the thread then Jason and other Loquats said if that had been that case (copying from MSE to Loquax) then it wasn't acceptable. Not quite the same as being jumped on for merely mentioning MSE. And as I recall you apologised if you'd got the accusation wrong.

What are you on about Bertycat? That wasn't the occasion at all...

And I've never copied to either site from the other.

Blimey... proved my point though eh. Don't diss the Quax.

I am an official company representative of Loquax. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

    .

And how do you think Martin pays for this site?

All the following quotes are from,

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/moneysavingexpert-finance
one of the team has the job to see if any 'affiliate links' to the top products can be found. While these look and work the same way as normal links; if someone clicks through, the link is tracked and it may generate a payment to the site (sometimes for the click, per user, per application, per accepted application or any combination).

Where do the links come from?<?xml:namespace prefix = o /><o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>

They come from finance comparison sites like Moneysup<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /><st1:PersonName>er</st1:PersonName>market, MoneyExp<st1:PersonName>er</st1:PersonName>t, Uswitch, Moneyextra, Find, Smartquotes or affiliate sites such as Tradedoubl<st1:PersonName>er</st1:PersonName> or Commission Junction. Their links are used and then if someone clicks through, this site gets a split of their revenue

In fact by his own admission the site.

    It pays for me.

I don't want to hide the fact the site is a v<st1:PersonName>er</st1:PersonName>y substantial part of my income; and I make an extremely good living.

In fact Martin makes so much money out of this site that,
It's allowed ov<st1:PersonName>er</st1:PersonName> £100,000 a year to be donated to charity.

    ;)

Personally I've found there are benefits and disadvantages to both sites.

MSE is can be cliquey and lots of people are sarcastic but is v good for sharing answers, Loquax seems friendlier but is more difficult to navigate and post comps- can never work out where I'm supposed to post.

I visit both but of course some people will prefer one or the other - don't suppose it matters as long as we are all winning...which I'm not at the moment !
  • i don't want anyway getting offended, but please could you check to see if a comp has been posted before.
the last week or so there has been loads of re posts, and if people re enter, they get disqualified for more than 1 entry.

i know the search facility is crappy at times,i have posted a comp before, that was already on,when i first came on here, but now i double, even triple check 1st
    try searching the url
    the title of the prize
or who is running the comp

please don't let it put you off posting though :D

  • i know the search facility is crappy at times,

You can say that again! I always check at least twice ... once for the actual url & then again for keywords, but it still misses them sometimes!!!

Luckilly there's usually someone around with a good enough memory to remember the original post, who will then post it on the duplicate thread so people can check their thanks. :)
:):D Tightwad. And proud of it! :D:)
