    :D
A lot of posters will start a thread to tell people that they have won a prize (which quite often has been posted on the competitions board). Inevitably there are a lot of threads typically saying well done :T.

I was just wondering (cos I'm a bit sad obviously) that if the competition required no (or very little) skill or knowledge then is Well Done an appropriate response surely Congratulations would be more suitable. However if the competition did require skill or knowledge the Well Done would be appropriate.

If I won a raffle and someone said well done to me I would think "Why well done? All I did was buy a raffle ticket!"

    Just a thought!
if someone posted a thread somewhere else on the board, there would be a certain amount of people thanking the op and a certain amount slagging them off, so the comps thread is the same but we usually only thank people and dont slag them off:D

I may be odd, but I generally look at the post before, and if that says 'well done' I'll put 'congratulations', and if it says 'congratulations' I try to put 'well done'.

Just like a bit of variety, I suppose! The 'well done' is for actually winning something, not an implication that work has been put into it. I'm always extremely chuffed (shows my age!) when I win, and I'm sure everyone else is too.

So by the OP's logic if someone announces they are expecting a baby you wouldn't congratulate them either-after all any fool can concieve a baby right ? ;)

I also congratulate people on having a baby, not always congratulate everyone on expecting but if one of the compers has had a baby or a comper who is a gran or even an auntie we congratulate them, is that so bad aswell?

I tend to post Congratulations, as sometimes when someone tells family, friends & work colleagues that they won something they can be met with resentment at the win possibly because of jealousy! This sour grapes is usually in a sliding scale in relation to how good the prize was. I think it's great that someone can post 'oh I won a thingamajig with bells on' & receive heart felt congratulations from their fellow MSE'ers.

It not only makes them feel chuffed but also helps spur on fellow MSE'ers who are in a dry spell of not winning, also it gives a sense of achievement to the member who posted the competition.

Personally I don't mind if someone says congrats, well done or ooh I wanted that too :D I think it's fab that we have somewhere that we can yell from the rooftops what we won!
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out
