Congratulating prize winners

A lot of posters will start a thread to tell people that they have won a prize (which quite often has been posted on the competitions board). Inevitably there are a lot of threads typically saying well done :T.
I was just wondering (cos I'm a bit sad obviously) that if the competition required no (or very little) skill or knowledge then is Well Done an appropriate response surely Congratulations would be more suitable. However if the competition did require skill or knowledge the Well Done would be appropriate.
If I won a raffle and someone said well done to me I would think "Why well done? All I did was buy a raffle ticket!"
Just a thought!

they are congratualting people on winning a prize whether there is a skill involved or not, some people comp for months without winning anything so get excited when they do, dont see a problem in it and wouldnt rain on their parade if it kept them happy0

I understand the OP, the term "well done" does imply some sort of accomplishment rather than just being purely luck. Bit like praising someone for having blue eyes. They didn't work at having blue eyes. But I can't think of an equivalent succinct phrase to use for "well done" that means "I'm glad you were lucky". I suppose this is the pedant in me again but it's like the difference between skill and talent. Talent should be appreciated but to praise the person for having the talent is a bit meaningless (same as the blue eyes example), whereas skill they've had to work at it to acquire it and it certainly is down to that individual deserving of praise for it.
But in the end that's the strangeness of the English language, the use of traditional phrases sometime deviates from the literal meaning of the words. But I think we still all know the sentiment behind them. And that's what really matters."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Think someone was a little bored today - or is seriously trying to increase their post count!!!0

His time would have had better thoughts by thanking a few others. Its encouragement to enter comps and that's all that matters.0

I agree, in the comps section we all like to let each other know that we have won something especially when it is a post for mse that someone won with, the op can be thanked for posting the original comp and then usually the winner will thank all the people that congratulated them on their win. It also proves that the competitions exist and there are winners, and above all it proves what a lovely polite lot we are over on the comps board:DHis time would have had better thoughts by thanking a few others. I don't think well done or congratulations are appropriate, I think  I'm so jealous would be much more suitable in my case, unless it's something I didn't want, and actually I'm far too lazy to 'well do' everyone so actually I just scream woooohooooo when someone wins from one of my posts
