  • Thank you to you all for advice.

I will take it all in when doing my statement.
spl2nh... I do have experience of working with the elderly, I worked in a residential home for 18 mths! Your post was very useful.
I think the hardest thing for me will be starting it, once I do that I'm sure it will flow.
Theboys ( sorry don't know how to multi quote) I agree with what you day about sounding "fluffy" I don't want to come off as " I want to change the world". Any advice you can give would be grateful and I will PM you..
    Many thanks to all...:D

Really!!!.. I'm gettin more and more stressed out about it cos I'm not sure how it's supposed to be worded. TBH I was origianally on the 2 yr access but was moved to th one year for reasons that are too long winded for me to go into, so I missed all the ppl that came in to talk about writing personal statement, so I'm in the dark. I'm in collge tomz so I'm gonna try and pin someone down who can help me a little.
Good luck with your statement, let me know how it goes.

Aww thats great. Are you enjoying it?? I know I'm only in my 1st year at access but I already feel way out of my depths. It's to do with the college messing me about regarding weather I was doin hte 1 yr access or 2, now I've missed a few sociology lessons cos of hte c**k up and I have 2 weeks to write 2 VERY SHORT essays wwith no hand outs or any thing i'm a little lost!!!
Any way back to you.. How did you feel going to uni were you scared?
  • I was scared whether I was clever enough to be at uni, but it is not as scary as I thought. The lecturers are down to earth and it is a natural progression to level 4, rather then a big step.

In ref to your access you are at the start, so you will catch up. Ask fellow students for copies of their handouts and notes. People are usually willing to help out.

I'm worried that I'm not good enuf and one day It'll be found out I'm a big fraud!! LOL;)
As I sed I'm in tomz so hopefully I can try and cathc up and feel like I'm getting there..
You sound like ur really enjoying it all.
Sometimes form talking to ppl I know who are already at uin college can sometimes scare you into worrying just how hard it will be.
Good luck with ur second year tho
    SL..x
  • I used to worry about getting found out that I was a big fraud and wasn't actually really intelligent enough to be studying at this high level. I am doing a MA in social work and am now in my second and final year on my final placement, which I have to say is going fantastically well.

I was lucky and had a brilliant practice teacher last year and interestingly enough discussed this 'fraud' idea with him and have actually come to resolve it in my head and actually get on with the work. Basically, one theory is that we hold negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves that aren't good or constructive for us, because in some way they do give us something - I come to realise my thoughts that i wasn't good enough and would be 'found out' was so that I never really had to take responsibility for myself - if i failed, well then, I should never have been on the course in the first place because I wasn't clever or good enough and the tutors who interviewed me should have realised this, thus making it their fault and not mine.

That probably doesn't make any sense but for me it was like a LBM!! :)
