Grey Paint ..

Have done some online research on this. Want to paint my lounge light grey on 3 walls and darker shade on firebreast.
Had thought about moonlit sky for pale shade but on googling people are saying turns more lilac tinge, looked at elephants breath but comments its like putty colour. Really unsure what to choose. Anyone done this and got it totally right ?
BTW we normally purchase Johnstons paint which they mix to order instore - they can mix any other companys paint colour.

Why not buy a couple of tester pots and see what they look like when on the wall? I'm planning on doing the same as you and using Dulux Rock Salt for the lighter colour.Make £10 per day-

thank u - will look for this tester and give it a go.0 -
We have this exact decor in our living room - using B&Q colours range. Platinum on 3 walls, and asphalt on the fireplace wall. Asphalt is pretty dark, but i love the outcome, and platinum is a tiny bit lilac but not as much as others i've seen.
We used Grey Hints from the same range in the bedroom (a lovely light grey that is almost white and alot less lilac!) and Grey Slate on a wall in our bedroom which came out beautiful.0 -
If you are repainting wall anyway, cover your test area with white emulsion first so you see the true colour of the tester and not have it "tainted" (or should that be tinted) by the existing colour of the wall.0

We used dulux polished pebble, it's definitely not putty or lilc-y
We painted sheets of white card with different greys and had them propped up on the fireplace to decide which colour suited the room and light best.0 -

thanks Purplepenguin - seems the whole lilacy tinge is a common problem choosing grey paintWe have this exact decor in our living room - using B&Q colours range. have notes made of colours for our B&Q visit after work this evening. Grey hints sounds too pale but grey slate is possibly an option.
Thanks so much for input0 -
I have dulux polished pebble in my bathroom and it is a lovely warm shade of grey. Looks really crisp and fresh against the white woodwork.I got ham but i'm not a hamster.....0

We've just done the hall in Moonlight, which looked a very pale blue-grey on the test paper which we moved around to check in different light.
Not happy with the whole thing - it looks too pale blue.
Awaiting the fitting of a grey-brown carpet, so the dilemma is whether to risk it or redo.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

I tried loads of greys - wanted a true grey, not bluey or greeny, and settled on Dulux Chic Shadow. Mixed it with white to get a pale more silvery grey.0

Another vote for Dulux Polished Pebble Matt Easycare as its very hard wearing0
