I cant abide mash, but instant is great for pie toppings and thickening stuff @Sun_Addict
MrM plant of the week was 3 x Hyacinth at £1.50 which is a bargain if you like them. 1 x blue, 1 x white for me. The rest were yucky pink or redMy mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

The batch cooking continued.
1. Lamb mince, topped with par boiled sliced potatoes in a hot pot half way house. Thirds eaten by the men folk! A small 'lunch or freeze' portion left which is positive feedback but annoying for the plan
2. Pinch of Nom campfire stew, with roasted diced potatoes - portioned and in the freezer
3. Pinch of Nom spiced beef and butterbean in the instant pot. Waiting for me to fetch some rice before portioning and freezing tomorrow.
We shopped and cooked to the plan, but who knows if we will eat to it. If it works then I can see a 'batch cook' weekend each month.
Wilkies obliged with seeds for pennies this morning - toms and sweet peas. Tidied out the seed tin, most of which was sow before 2018. My 5p packets of co-op seeds from last summer are all 'sow by 2023'. From memory it only really matters for peas and beans though. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I've had surprising success with ancient lettuce seed... but also failures, so haven't relied on it. I need to start thinking about seeds, but I'm not going to sow anything until after I get back from my US trip towards the end of Feb. Before then I need to empty and clean the greenhouse, and then put up the insulation so I don't lose seedlings to late frost like last year.
Maybe you need to portion the food before you serve it, so it's already packed away?5 -
Well done on the batch cooking. Mr M_F would like all that lot. Will have to have a look at a pinch of nomDedicated Debt Free Wanabee 🤓

That's some great batch cooking. I'm itching to get one with some but also reluctant to get freezer two up and running again until we really REALLY need to - so right now it's a case of eat the contents of F1 again!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Many tubs did make it into the freezer so it was a reasonable success. The spicy beef was thinner than I would like so they are eating it as soup.
Tax returns checked to make sure I had submitted and paid and that I hadn't just thought about it. All good on that front.

You'll have to start topping the savings up again4

The ONLY good thing about having to remove a chunk from long term savings is the furious incentive to build up again! (And in this case, seeing the mortgage amount drop of course!)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
