@Seasidegal58 I have noted that for watching when I next have some ironing to do. I liked the back to 50s/60s ones a few years ago
@DrSpendingLittle I have to admit its almost fun, I've always liked making something out of nothing
@greenbee poor George indeed, she spends most of her life doing her best dead George these days
@MovingForwards thanks, I am trying to be inventive, doesn't always work though.
OH today did 'but why do have no apples only one banana?' Because you and the boys tend to take them for a nice drive to work/school and the I feed the bruised remains of the apples to the birds. I'm feeding the birds with bird seed instead. I am sure it is not just us who does this. I am just buying things that do get eaten and leaving the things we should eat but will not for those who want them.
Tonight was Monday Tea. Set in stone, jackets, cheese, beans, sausages, sometimes bacon. Mashed and rebaked etc but all variations on a theme. Change ist verboten.
Yesterday was more fun. The UFO was bone broth, proper thick jelly. Sauteed an onion, finely diced a potato, cooked till soft with the beef stock and then used the blender stick. OH hates thin soup, DS1 visible onion. Normal people could miss this step. Added the dregs of the tomato base from the meatballs, and a good squeeze of tom puree. Diced celery, diced carrots sauteed on oil in a little pan and then tipped into the big pan. After ten minutes added a handful of pasta (macaroni here, but the broken bits out of the bottom of the spaghetti would be fine) and gave it another ten. Lovely thick not quite brown windsor/minestrone soup. You could add bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce, sliced cabbage, etc.
Main course was a thinly sliced roast chicken breast with sausage wrapped in bacon to pad it out to a full meal with the usual sunday trimmings. We had been low carbing but its simply not sustainable atm, so this was a real treat. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

SSG that TV programme sounds fascinating! The red light on my Sky box confirms that it is now downloading so thanks for that tip!
Potatoes/onions etc live in the main reason we bought this flat, here. I shall explain! We viewed another in the same block on the same morning, and didn't take to it at all - probably mostly silly things - radiators in the wrong place, kitchen storage felt a bit to little... We sat in the layby across the road wondering whether to even bother with the slightly later viewing of this one, but eventually decided it would be rude to cancel, so came across, and the place felt totally different from the start. The final selling point though was that the original 1950's larder was still here and in place - complete (then) with it's original blue and white tiling... since then we have had it re tiled, and the rather ragged shelves replaced with gorgeous waxed pine ones, but it is very much still here, and is the best place imaginable to keep root veg, beer, spices and all manner of other things that prefer a cold and dark environment!
I do always enjoy reading your meals, too! Also agree about quite enjoying making meals that make the best use of the things we have - you're right, it IS almost fun isn't it!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Oh EH I've got Pantry Envy! I'd love one.
I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

How does one install a pantry in a 1994 semi??? I often think of my nan and grandads with fond memories. To the left was a can opener on the wall and a plate rack which held the daily plates (posh plates in the dining room sideboard and show cupboard) the right had various shelves with tins, packets etc on. There was a large middle shelf which housed various pyrek dishes and oven trays. The back top shelves housed the cake and flour tins. Under the middle back shelf was a very small fridge just enough room for the daily milk delivery, bits of cheese and cooked meats, best butter and stork for baking. To the side of the fridge were the bottles of pop and maybe a single bottle of blue nun shoved right at the back.Dedicated Debt Free Wanabee 🤓

Standing in the co-op queue this morning I thought of Nella Lasts diary, and my beloved Angela Thirkells and was reminded that it was the time it took to get things you didn't really want as well as the lack of volume that people suffered with.8

If the 1994 semi had a utility room you could convert that, I'd say?! Mine is definitely a larder rather than a pantry (so a big deep cupboard rather than being a walk-in room) - loving the description of your Nan & Grandad's pantry though P-F!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I'd love a pantry too, it would be brilliant to be able to store all foodstuff in the same place rather than some in this cupboard, some in that. I had a new kitchen 3 years ago and made sure I had a decent size full length cupboard installed but I've still got things here, there and everywhere. I keep discovering things I'd forgotten I had.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7
