    Sorry to the above poster, but I'd rather the £50 go to a forum member who doesn't just have one post and that being a referal link.

  • Switched as lured in by a cheaper tariff as advertised on MSE. Before our 1st direct debit had been taken they raised the unit rate on both gas and electricity making it immediately more expensive than my previous provider. Grrr. And an early exit fee of £60 made it pointless to switch away until closer to the tariff end. When I did switch some 12 months later they suddenly reduced the tariff again. All a bit coincidental and possibly underhand..... not happy with their tactics.

    I did the same calculation today and got exactly the same saving as quoted by MSE. However this does include the £25 cashback and Igloo's £62 credit for Dual Fuel which are one-offs. (I'm not sure about the DF credit but it's not mentioned on Igloo's own website.)

    So my first year saving is net £122 and £35 the following year.

    I'm not sure that is worth the potential hassle of change from Pure Planet who are the best energy supplier I've ever had. But maybe it is as the big savings are the cash-backs and I could change back for free after the credits.
  • Not very impressed really, they have refused my switch due to discrepancies on the meter registration database and advised I have to get my current supplier to change it. However they strongly suggested that nobody could take over my supply because of this, when questioned backwards and forwards it turns out that they choose not to take over if there is a discrepancy but the way they described it was misleading as I have switched several times since living in this house.

    I'm actually glad that I had this interaction that they refused my switch as if they are willing to mislead over something so trivial then it doesn't point to them offering good customer service in the future. The only downside is that cheap energy club just shows that I have a switch in progress so I can't find out who would be next cheapest supplier.
  • Ok advised by MSE that a switch would save me money, currently paying £51 per month to AVRO, advised on MSE site that switch to Igloo would be £47 per month. started to switch, advised by Igloo that the price would be £52.33 plus a winter upload of £10.47 giving a total of £62.80 per month. how does this provide a serving, sorry guys think you got this wrong.
  • It's because the savings are in reality the cashback + credit. £25 will be placed back into your bank by MSE plus the £62 into your reward account with Igloo - idea being that when you combine the two and that is applied to your energy, then yes, you are saving money. It is mostly driven from this because the tarrifs aren't all that different to others.
    By the way, the winter uplifting can be opt-ed out of. They do this because even with all the algorithms in the world you will use far more energy in the winter to heat your home, and therefore algorithms take this into consideration - but they will get it wrong because they are based on your readings, so the extra money they charge you in the winter is to cover this, and then you will get your bill lowered in the summer (when you don't need to heat your home). So the amount you are paying is no different, you are just paying it in different chunks.
