Doesn't the washing machine require a U bend to stop the dirty water coming back ??
Better to get a qualified plumber in to do the job, they will quote free of charge.

Yes it does, although it's to stop the smells rather than the water - for a stand-alone appliance, you'd normally use one of these:

It's presumed that you already have a suitable 13A socket near the intended position in the utility room, and also that your w/m is cold feed only?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Do you have a sink in the utility room? If so everything you need for the plumbing is already present and all that is required is a few basic connections.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but i think you have just solved my mystery of the smelly kitchen
Assuming it will be quite easy to fit one of these onto existing pipework with easy access?

You could/should add it to your own thread but yes, it is quite easy (assuming there is physically room) to fit this into your pipe run for your washing machine.

Yes the room is powered. There are two 13A sockets. Presume it's also just cold feed too. It just feels like all the fundamentals are there (or nearly there...).

No sink unfortunately but again it's where the boiler is and the main drain is nearly right outside the door to the utility room.
