Dump it in someone else's garden....?
This tipping must have involved quite some effort and noise, so, unless the property is secluded, someone must have seen or heard something.
Does your home insurance possibly cover this?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Surely then they have more soil to get rid of........ where does the soil from the hole go???

    Simple.
Dig another hole to put it in.

Or you could just make the first hole bigger.
  • I would be concerned in OP's position that it is some sort of "unofficial" firm that had been flytipping in my garden - to save themselves paying at the Council tip.

If they've done it once = they might decide to do it again.

Actually - if they've done it to OP - then they might have done it before to other people. Might be worth putting up a post on local Facebook group asking if anyone else has had this done to them (sooner or later the clues will lead back to the culprit).

I would call or email the police (non-emergency no.) and report that someone has fly-tipped in your garden. You will get a crime reference number. At the risk of increased premiums, you could then call your house insurance and they should be able to organise someone to come and pick it up, or at least pay for this.

You could call the council and see if this has happened before in the area. As someone else said that must have been dropped by a crane, most likely a grab-lorry. Any local building works going on? Same bags by any chance?

They are typically called "tonne-bags", because (you guessed it) they weigh about a tonne.

I recently contacted my council about two mattresses which had been dumped in our garden. There was a section to report fly tipping on private property. The council contacted me a few weeks later but the mattresses had been removed by then and there was no evidence as to where they had come from. I suggested to them to leave it but I believe they would have investigated. The OP could try searching their councils website or contacting them.

Photos before removing any of it might be useful.

I've never tried it but its unlikely those 1 tonne bags have been moved by hand so they would have been dropped by crane meaning it could have been driven from anywhere. I would suspect illegal waste collectors emptying there wagon or a disgruntled builder you owe money to.

You'd never be able to lift them over by hand without it taking hours. They must have been dropped off in a loader of some description, especially if the wall was undamaged.

It does look like building spoil too, so useless for anyone who doesn't want landfill.

I'd report it to the police and council as fly tipping, as it could easily be happening elsewhere. It could be a mistaken address for an intended delivery, but it doesn't look "new".

Any building/landscaping work going on nearby?

    Thanks guys.
I have managed to find someone via GumTree who has agreed to take them away for £180 (other quotes I was getting was close to £500!). He's coming this Saturday so hopefully it be sorted this weekend.

Long story short, I only bought the house last year & I'm not too popular with my neighbour after making an unpopular planning application in May. The neighbours banded together to make 87 objections! However we do have a neighbourhood watch & I will as suggested report it to the police, council & NW. Hopefully the NW will be neutral and ensure neighbours are aware this is not right & should have been reported.

Unfortunately there is/was about 3 or 4 buildings works locally, so can't pin down which address it may have come from :(

No they won't, no recordable crime has been committed.

...will be the Police's reply but actually fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence for which you can be prosecuted. It is defined as the ‘illegal deposit of any waste onto land that does not have a licence to accept it’.

I doubt the OP has a licence to accept waste in their garden..
