you would need some sort of HDMI-SCART convertor as well as the recorder.:(

Depending on what Sky box it is (did we even confirm it was Sky+ HD?), there might be SCART, S-Video and composite (yellow phono) outputs at the back, along with red and white for audio for the S-Video and composite. You can use any of these to record out to. HDMI is the only one you can't record from.
  • Yes on the very first post I mention they currently have a sky+ box and I'm trying to get them over to sky+HD

It would have to have an active Sky viewing card inserted and would need at least the Sky+ service active (around £10 a month) in order to access the recorded programmes.

Whether Sky would do that on top of the Sky HD sub I'm not sure. In fact you could ask about multiroom and keep both boxes connected, not a cheap option either way.

Than you. Yes, I was forgetting about the encryption factor. It would not be a long tern solution anyway, as the drive will eventually fail.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

We have been trying to get my parents to move from SKY+ to SKY HD because of more storage space etc but my dad doesn't seem to be for moving.

You see he has programmes recorded on his box which aren't shown anymore and they aren't on YouTube etc (we've searched)

I have spoken to sky and I mentioned the USB slot on the boxes but I've been told they are there for no reason/use

    Any ideas anyone? Thanks

No specific mention of Sky+HD in your first post that's why I queried if it has an HDD in post#5. Sky did issue a HD box without HDD:

Would the mention of storage space and recordings that their father wants to keep not be a clue :D
  • Inner Zone - isn't this nit picking?

Like Colin_Maybe has said I did mention 'storage space'
It's all been sorted now anyway hopefully!

No lack of correct info can cause incorrect advice.

Already given advice that using a PVR for long term storage is not a good idea.
  • For goodness sake, all I missed out of the original post was a +
I'm sure there may have been a sky hd box without the + but I certainly have never heard of it so it cannot have done too well.
Thank you though, like I said I think it's all been sorted out now hopefully.
  • To be fair as well, the weblink you gave https://satinsure.com/technical-support/types-of-sky-boxes
    Isn't even official SKY anyway it's a 3rd party.
