Ps. I'm a teacher too and just started my first diary today.
I would 100% recommend ynab. I've been using it just over 2 years now and would be completely lost without it. There is a 34 day free trial which you can sign up for to see whether you do get on with it.
I'll have a look for your diary. I hope you're enjoying the Summer holidays!Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500 -
Lots of lovely comments again! It's so lovely to read.
Today we've had a family event. It's been a lovely catch up with people.
I had a quick look at car insurance quotes this morning. Ours isn't due for renewal until October, but best get in there early! There is such a range in prices, though, one quote was for over £500, the other just over £200. For the exact same cover.Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500 -
Great news on the money coming to you and for getting the job you want. Yes, as you say annoying that you have to understandably clear some debt with it but you will also have a second income so you can save back into the pot.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I slept in! Kind of! The baby had a feed at around quarter to 4, and was coughing a lot and all blocked up after being asleep for hours following his cold that he ended up being very sick. So, we kept him upright for a good half hour after being sick, and used anything baby friendly we had on him (salt spray and baby snufflebabe). He ended up sounding much clearer and went back to bed around 4:30. I stayed awake a little longer to make sure he was ok. 6:30 the eldest wakes, I send him back to bed to read/play with toys. By 7, he's been back in twice. Dh gets up with him at 7. 7:10 the baby wakes. After a few minutes of chatting with the baby, Dh comes to get him and I fell back asleep. Until 8:30. Wow! :j
I have been trying to do some surveys the last few days to see how I got on. They now are:
Prolific: £1.70 (did have £1)
Swagbucks: 149 (did have 104)
Onepoll: £3.60 (did have 25p)
I've got a food delivery coming today. That's already showing as £47.56 on the card account. I'm happy with that for our weekly shop.Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500 -
Another busy day!!
It's been decided recently that I'm starting to help dh out a little more with his business. He's self employed and is getting a lot busier. He has started to employ people, and basically he's not business minded at all, emails are being forgotten about, etc. So I've taken over his payroll and I'm now going to be taking over the emails/sending quotes and invoices. This morning I went on to HMRC to file his CIS monthly tax return and saw that the last 2 he'd done were wrong. It wouldn't let me amend it online, so I spent most of the morning on the phone to them trying to sort it. It has now been escalated, so fingers crossed that will be sorted soon.
I then had to add a new member of staff, and of course that wasn't straight forward. I think I'm almost sorted with it now, and I've been sorting through his inbox (which has emails dating back to 2010!).
After that I popped in to town (without children) to look at new work clothes. After I had the youngest, I decided I was going to lose weight so threw all my bigger clothes. That was a mistake because I'm the exact same size now as I was before I fell pregnant. I now have 2 pairs of work trousers and 5 tops. I bought 1 top and 1 pair of trousers in Next using my account card. Last time I paid my account balance, I overpaid, so the cost of those has come from my overpayment.
The rest I bought from Dorothy Perkins. Not too expensive, and I opened a store card for an extra 10% off. I've put the money to one side in YNAB ready to pay it off in full once the card is through and will cut the card up. I then filled the car with petrol (cost an absolute fortune). All spends have been added onto YNAB so everything has been budgeted for and is up to date.
We've had another family event today (it's a weekend of them!), but all that cost were a few drinks and snacks we took with us.
The boys have had a late night tonight, so I'm hoping they'll sleep a little later tomorrow. We'll see!! I may do a couple of surveys now, before heading to bed.Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500 -

Good morning!
I've just been looking at my energy usage. Electricity is down slightly from last year, but gas is quite a bit higher, and has been every month this year. I know we have an extra family member to this time last year, but we only use gas for central heating and hot water. I'm not convinced that our boiler is very efficient, it has been showing signs of giving up recently and has been dripping water. With the money we'll be getting, we will be getting a new boiler.
I had my new work contract through yesterday, so I've already signed and posted back one copy.
With the boys sleeping later, the youngest woke at 6:30 for milk, and I think he'd have gone back to sleep but started coughing and is all bunged up after being on his back all night. The eldest is still asleep. Typical that when one sleeps in, the other doesn't!
I've had a quick look at the bank accounts and ynab, though nothing much changes to the accounts over the weekend so nothing needed doing.
It's our final family get together for the weekend today. This one will cost us a little, but I've already put the money to one side (and hope there is a little bit left at the end of the day).Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500 -
I am in my pjs, on the sofa, with both boys in bed fast asleep. Dh has gone out for a run!
Today we budgeted for a family event, and I'd over budgeted by £50. We've got 1 night away before the end of the summer holidays so that £50 has gone into that pot. The accommodation has already been paid for, so it's food mainly and a little spending money.
Today's spends have already been added onto ynab. I have signed up to a 4th survey site today....opinion outpost. Fingers crossed between the 4 I'll make a little bit extra before Christmas!Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500 -
My loan payment has gone out, so I've adjusted my signature. By this time next month it will be under £16k. Woop!!
Today is going to be a quiet day. Ds2 was up for an hour in the night coughing, and I was awake another hour afterwards meaning I was awake 12:30-2:30. He's just gone back down for his nap. Ds1 was given the DVD Boss Baby for his birthday, so we may cuddle up on the sofa with some popcorn this afternoon.
I took some mince out of the freezer in the early hours of this morning so I'll make a spag bol tonight. We spent last week living on a diet of junk because of one thing or another, so it's definitely time to get back to eating a little healthier.
I've checked and updated YNAB and the bank accounts this morning, and checked dh's work emails. I really need to work through this house and give it a proper tidy up. I may do a little every day this week!!Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500
