    Aaaaand scratch that.

Got refused. Even though we were told multiple times animals are allowed.
Hoping I can get my money back...

So yeah, keep the advice flowing guys.

What! Ask why? Have you been able to talk to the landlord directly?
  • We've managed to find a house that allows our cat for an extra £100 on the deposit. We ended up just looking at houses that didn't mention pets in the listing and found they were more likely to accept a cat. Fortunately too our new house is quite isolated and has a huge garden for the cat to go out in too.

I really hope you find somewhere! I'd lie though about my cat before getting rid of him.

When we rented we also found it difficult to find a place that accepted pets. We have 1 small dog and it took forever to find somewhere.
We managed in the end but the property wasn't very nice, it wasn't awful but everything was really old and worn (including the carpets).
I can see it from both sides to be honest though, I've seen damage caused by pets, my step sister rents and she's got 2 dogs. She lets them pee and poo everywhere, they also rip up lino and chew door frames, one even chewed a hole in the wall.

Some ruin it for others I think, people get tarred with the same brush.

Thankfully we've just bought our own house so don't have that worry now.

I hope you find somewhere for you and your kitties soon.

You have doubted wrong. I assure you we're not teenagers with no jobs etc. We're literally good to go on everything, we've just been living with our parents/siblings to save up cause it's London but now it's time to leave the nest. The cats are literally the only problem haha!

The cats are only just turning 1 so they'll be fine to adjust. To be fair, I feel like my mother wants to keep one but we'll see. :rotfl:

I'll have to check out some more direct LL ones though, thanks for the advice!

Please don't split the cats up if they are used to being together, especially if you are out at work all day.

If your mother would like a cat then perhaps you could help her to get one (or two) of her own.

It was a block of few flats so the landlord was fully happy for the kitties, but the block owner started being nasty about it and outright refused us, even knowing we'd bought in by then. I got my money back luckily but still, heartbroken. I think the landlord was pretty annoyed too cause he lost a perfect customer.

Yeah I'd rather keep them together than split them up, it'd be awful lonely, then they'd be more like to damage everything.
Plus they've been together since day 1, no way am I breaking a brotherly bond! :rotfl:

Oh if it's flats you're looking at you really may struggle, as sometimes the leases have restrictions on pets...

That's always a potential problem when looking to rent in a leasehold property...it doesn't matter what the leaseholder thinks its what the lease stipulates.

Sadly I once bought a leasehold property with the intention of it housing a pet and to be told verbally that it was a paper exercise that just needed the paying of a fee and permission would be granted....only to find out after paying the fee that this was not the case and no pets were allowed.

It will be easier perhaps if you could look at freehold properties but usually these are houses and may even be out of your budget.

How long would your mum be able to have the cats....whilst it's not an ideal solution maybe her having them and you visiting might be an option for you to consider...at least you will know who has them and that they are being well cared for, with the bonus of being able to visit.

My son is currently at Uni and he so looks forward to the time he spends at home with the cat...they won't forget you.

We've been looking at all types, mostly houses/maisonettes for that exact reason but this one block of flats was promising till the owner of the actual block found out. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

Whatt? Sounds just like what I had, that's so insane how they can do that! I'm going to try and get absolutely everything in detail before any money is paid out from now on, it's a ridiculous waste of time otherwise!

Yeah its always an option, it's just the last option we want to take. We'll see how we go and if no luck, then that'll be the option we take. Not giving them to a stranger, they're happy where they are for now! :p

    Hey.

Where exactly are you looking in London? I work in an estate agecy in Croydon and I know some landlords who are OK with cats. You can send me a private message if you are looking in Croydon area :)
