Yes the icons are a real motivator as everyone else has commented Shaggy. I am really happy that I will get three of them for this month and that has pushed me to do that bit extra when I would have said s*d it before!

Just watching my neighbour scrape solid ice of his wife's car. Brrrrr! Hope everyone keeps warm and cosy.

Good luck Pastapur and keep posting!

15/15 for yesterday please Shaggy - love the cat on the moon. Very clever finding all these smileys, some are especially lovely and make me smile.

Welcome to Paspatur, and such good news re hospital too and Mudbath too.

Also thought others might be interested in this article from Good Husekerping blog.

    Frequently waking during the night

This could be caused by low glycogen levels.

'To carry out its essential overnight repairs and cell rejuvenation, your body uses energy in the form of glycogen which is stored in the liver,' says Dr Henderson. 'During the night, these glycogen stores get depleted at a rate of 10g per hour, of which 65% is used by the brain.

'If this energy supply runs out, the liver sends stress signals to the brain in the form of the hormone cortisol, alerting it to wake up until sufficient levels are restored. This process can result in broken sleep, which you may not even be aware of, but can often leave you feeling tired and lacking in energy the following day.'

If you think you are frequently waking during the night, try Benenox Overnight Recharge (£12.49, T**co), which contains three natural ingredients – honey, Sustamine and vitamin B6 – that work together to give you a more restful night's sleep.

Not advertising and I haven’t tried the remedy although I might as my sleep pattern is poor (not helped by too much travelling and nights in hotels) but thought it was an interesting possible explanation. As the liver regenerates then not drinking might explain why some people experience much improved sleep.
  • 13/14 for Tues night when I went out and drove and decided it wasn't worth losing an AFD for 1 drink, but then went and had a s*d it day yesterday and a couple of drinks. Will hit target tonight.

Please can I set a target of 10 for December, which will be a real challenge with the festivities and my birthday
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

Hi Marcusjr glad you are joining us on here. I read the Easyway book ages ago. Sometimes all these things sow seeds for later so I guess it all helps.

Welcome to the thread - do keep on posting!

Ok, confession time. After my success the night before I fell at the first hurdle last night. Caved in at around 9pm. Errr, oh well. Today is a planned celebration so I'm calling it for November at 5/7.

I am planning to be AF next Monday to Wednesday. Want smileys in December!!

No, not in this case, Paspartur, I agree. Click on the double bubble at the bottom of the posts you want to multiquite, just on the right of the Quote button. (You can only collect up to three quotes.) At the bottom left of the last post on the page you'll see another blue button - Post Reply. Click on that and a new screen will appear, with the Multiquotes in it.

I think what youre doing is great and wish you all the best. Imon the same journey. Tried the Allen Carr Easyway. Didnt work but there ya go. Tried again the harder way and working better. The Allen Carr book gave me a lot of new ways to look at it tho so I am very grateful for that.

Welcome Marcusjr! I haven't read Allen Carr but a lot of people have found his books helpful. Anything that helps is good in my opinion and new perspectives are particularly helpful. The great thing about new knowledge is that we can't unlearn it, although sometimes it takes a while for the real message to seep through, so just reading isn't always enough. I found reading masses of blogs by people who were battling with giving up really helpful, as well as every book the library had on the subject - painfully few, but they did have some. Keep posting - we know that works!

Thank you PSL. That's a lovely thing to say and it means a lot. I hope things are going smoothly for you - it's a tough time at work to resist the endless drink-fests associated with Christmas - 'Merry' being the operative word at this time of year. Bah humbug and all of that!

Interesting article Maggie M. I rattle I take so many supplements, but there is no doubt that we underestimate the effect of booze and caffeine on our sleep. So did my OH, by the way and he whinged daily about his appalling lack of sleep for 20 years. I've quoted this elsewhere, but if someone can get through the labyrinthine process of being referred to a sleep clinic because of long-standing sleep problems, 50% (A FULL 50%) of all patients report that giving up all caffeine (tea and hot chocolate as well as coffee) report that all of their sleep problems disappear. That's an astonishing finding. I'm guessing a substaintial majority of the remaining 50% would also find their problems disappeared if they gave up alcohol. It was only after I did and OH cut back to about a glass a day, two or three on highdays and holidays, that we both realised just how disruptive the effect of booze is, and that it creeps up on us all without us noticing.

We all do it, WBF. It happens. I think Shaggy's signature is the right attitude at times like these. Onwards and upwards.

    30/30 please Shaggy. Very satisfying.
    Better is good enough.

This is rather early but think I can declare New Year's Eve to be an AFD if for no other reason than because I am working the next day :rotfl: and I certainly don't need or want to be hungover. I hate big parties anyway to be honest so a quiet evening the night before suits me fine.
