the desire to drink is huge so reading your post has helped enormously.

    Off to bed I think

Fantastically well done for getting past it, One Day. That's when it's hard work, and that's when real grown up pull up their big knickers and show just how strong we are. We all go through those evenings and the only way to push through is to find something that speaks to us individually in that moment - and it really, really doesn't matter where you take your support from. I absolutely promise you those evenings when it's a toughie to get through occur less and less frequently as time goes on but they are a bu**er when they happen. Going to bed early was exactly the right thing to do. By Day 60 they're pretty much done with, and from then on it'll just be a passing thought that a glass of wine would go well with that pizza or pasta, and that's it - it's resistable because you've come so far you won't want to ruin your run. The good news is that even that stops after a while. I'm so glad you found something I said helpful and thank you for saying so.

I was nearly de-railed at the first hurdle when my last client of the day gave me a bottle of fizz for Christmas (I won't be seeing her again until January). It was sitting there calling at me and normally I'd have had a glass and, because it's the weekend, then had another. Then, of course, I'd be finishing the bottle tomorrow night.

I managed to resist by having a gorgeous hot chocolate (mentioned earlier in this thread so thank you). Funnily enough I didn't fancy fizz then :) . I'm actually thinking of re-gifting the wine so it's not a temptation but that feels a bit mean.

Well done for resisting, Mudbath; fizz takes a bit of an extra effort I think. It's lovely to know that your client thinks so much of you they gave you such a generous gift. I'd regift it pretty much immediately to someone who you like who will enjoy it sensibly and be thrilled that you've been generous and kind. I'd skip the bit about they'd be doing you a favour taking it off your hands, too - there's no need to spoil the gesture.

It's not mean at all to regift things, it's practical, pragmatic and generous. It's not that it wasn't appreciated, was it? It's just that it's an inappropriate gift for you at this particular point in your life. We don't need to tell everyone we know about our relationship with booze, so how was s/he to know?

    2/31 please, Shaggy.

Ok. So I think I made 13/20 days last month. Not as good as I'd have liked. :(

And last night I went to our works do which was abysmal and I was home by 10. Despite that I still managed to drink too much as all we did was sit round a table with terrible food and no atmosphere and then I came home and had one.

Still, all the positivity I'm reading on this thread has given me more enthusiasm so I'm driving to a party tonight and can't drink.

Excellent thread and welcome to all those who are new. :j
  • Made a start on 1/5 AF days. (Though I have a provisional target of 18 in my head as I wish to hit my annual target, but think it's safer to leave it at 5 just in case I say s*d it and get none if I fail at 18, sorry for the unintelligible ramble!).

Honey Bear - thank you for your wise and kind words. It's made me re-think re-gifting. From now on I'll receive with gratitude and pass on with love. I tend to get quite a lot of bottles of wine through December so I'm going to put aside the money from each bottle I re-gift (as usually i'd have to buy a bottle for a party / a gift for a friend etc) and treat myself in January.

I'm declaring 2/20 for today as I've offered to pick DS up from his girlfriends at midnight so I'll be driving.

The week ahead has 2 Christmas outings and 2 birthday outings so I'm going to split them and not drink at 2 and have a glass of wine if I feel like it at the other 2.

Apologies for the rambling but it's keeping me focused.

Slowdown, are you quite sure you weren't at one of my works do's, it all sounds so familiar :rotfl: Actually we haven't had ours yet but I'm sure it won't be dissimilar!
