Interesting indeed... think we need the Op to respond to clarify.... and they've just been looking on this thread and not bothered."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

86 year old dad facing eviction He has a HA house which he has lived in for 30 years and has been falsely accused of subletting itNeed advise about parents house and selling for care costs My parents are in their 80s and although hale and hearty we have to face the fact that they may need residential care at some point.
The house they live in has been in our family for over 120 years and I will inherit it on their death0 -
I'm confused....
If LondonSu's dad owns a house worth £1million, and he has savings, why is a charity walking his dog for him?
Sorry to be dense - did I miss something?0 -

No Lauretta (makes me want to sing 'Loretta are you better are you well well well') but i should not digress.....
LondonSu has a father who owns a property valued at approx £750,000 from one post in 2011 I think, this was apparently the family home having been in the family for over 120 years.
LondonSu also has a father that lives in a Housing Association house and claims benefits such as Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and Pension Credit. He has lived in this house for over 30 years.
LondonSu also has a father that gave up his Council House over 40 years ago to take up employment elsewhere that gave him free accommodation in a rural village.
LondonSu's husband also had a property left to him over 30 years ago by his grandfather, the Aunt still lived there the last post stated.
LondonSu and her husband also sold their flat in London, which, apparently from an earlier thread was unmortgageable and they then purchased, with cash, a property on the Isle of Wight.
LondonSu is a pillar of the community, hates when people try to scam the NHS or Dentists, thinks there are way too many scroungers on the system and, although in pain with her hands (as yet undiagnosed) does not want to claim benefits.
With a father that owns a few houses, a husband that owns a property and their own home, bought for cash, I am sure she does not need to claim benefits.

OMG 3 fathers! Now I am really, really confused!
There must be an explanation for this... LondonSu knows so much about the rules on claiming State Benefits, of every description - look at this post LondonSu made, from 2016:
"You mentioned the word I when it comes to savings, if you claim CB JSA you can have as much savings as you want, BUT as soon as you need to claim IB JSA its no longer a matter of how much you have in savings, but how much you and your partner have in income and savings as a household. It doesn't matter how you want to split your finances you cannot claim as a single person if you are married or living with a partner as if you were, your partner will be expected to support you (which is how it should be).
If you are saying you are not actually a couple and that you have no ties and just live there in a shared house situation, then the only way you would get help is to change the mortgage payments to rent and have a tenancy agreement, this would of course trigger an investigation to ensure you were not just doing that to claim HB and could cause your partner problems with her mortgage provider, as some providers and insurers will not let the mortgagee rent out part of their homes if they have a 'domestic' mortgage, and if they did may not allow her to rent to people on HB.
You would have to change the way you refer to her as your 'partner' if in fact you are not actually living together as this will have immediate connotations with the benefit people and it will be assumed you are partners in every sense of the world.
Be warned you will have to show a lot of proof to the benefits agency for IB benefits if you are not a couple, bank statements, bills, etc, if you are a couple then your partner has to be prepared to show the same information for a couples claim"
(Just reading that gives me a headache...but it's nice to know that there are people out there who are experts, and know exactly how to apply the rules).0 -
Don't forget poor 'hale and hearty' mum, who is buried in the garden.
Perhaps, tearful dad should have been left to dig her up before she expired. ....That adds manslaughter ,or possibly murder, to the list of offences.0 -

Last year the aunt who lived rent-free in the house LondonSu's husband inherited 30 years ago was quite frail. The aunt's only income was her pension, LondonSu's husband paid the council tax, the gardener and maintained the house, a 1930's house worth a fortune. With LondonSu's knowledge I don't know why she didn't help the aunt claim pension credit. Last year the council were suspicious about the arrangement.

If Dad is in hot water LondonSu I think you are right to be worried. I hope the aunt is receiving the care she needs.0
