  • My solicitor submitted the searches on Friday and said they would be back in around 5 days... am I missing something as everyone else is waiting for weeks? Or is my solicitor being very optimistic?
  • We accepted an offer on our house on 14/09. We are breaking the chain as the house we are buying wont be vacated in time. Unbeknown to us our buyer is using Purple Bricks solicitor, we are now at 17wks and I'm so frustrated with the whole process 😫
Hi, interested to know what the problem is with the Purple Bricks solicitors, the people we're buying off are using them.  The whole process has only just kicked off, so be good to know what to expect.
in my experience they have taken 5 weeks to send out initial information about the property we are buying (the contract pack and PIF) , omitted vital information ( only sent info on 1 title out of 3) and now not responding to enquiries sent in November, claiming they have already responded to them, when they haven’t. I hate them and would not have anything to do with them ever again. If I didn’t love the house we are buying I would have walked away. Interestingly they seem to farm out to various firms, some of whom (Birchall and Blackburn) I have had a great experience with, so I wonder if normally reputable firms give Purplebricks a poor service because they are paid less than their usual fee by them.
Oh god, was hoping this would be straightforward too, we're in rental (and need to be out ASAP so the landlord can sell), and the lady I'm buying from has found a chain free house.  I'll prepare for a tough ride then - my solicitor is ace, really on top of it all, but guess that's no use if the other solicitors are slow.  The searches are taking an age here at the moment, around 10 weeks, and I thought that might be the slow thing!  Sigh.  Good luck with your purchase!
Hopefully you can get everything else sorted in the ten weeks! We got our searches back in about two weeks so we were lucky in that regard. You can chase them up via the post sales support call centre, their hold music is pretty relaxing. Fingers crossed your experience is better than mine.

A week on and no further progress for us, now over 5 weeks since the buyer's solicitor had the responses to their very basic enquiries. I'd like things to get a move on but and fearful to chase!

I think it depends on the council...some councils are taking longer than others, depending on demand in that area?

Not sure how accurate it is but I used Searchflow which says 16 working days for my area

It took exactly a month for our searches to arrive (Dec - Jan), a london borough, if that helps.
  • Phoned to confirm today: we've exchanged! Completing on Friday. So pleased!
Congratulations! Must be a relief to get to that point.

Today is just insane, just had another call from estate agent saying that buyers at the bottom of the chain (our buyers buyers) are saying completion has to be on the 14th or else it can’t be done for a couple of weeks as they’re out of the country....I’ve now given up. We’ve boxed up our kids toys. With them not at school I’ll have no choice but to unpack them
Did your buyers get their contract to their solicitors in the end? If exchange is tomorrow does that not give enough time for Thursday still? Fingers firmly crossed for you.

I understand from my Council that it also depends on whether a personal search company is used, it’s apparently quicker to go direct through the Council. Our solicitor uses a company so searches not due back till 29th Jan which will be over a month since they were requested
