Can you get your mortgage offer extended by 30 days? I believe nationwide were allowing this at one point if you appplied for the extension within 30 days of the expiry date.
Where did you get this information? The only web reference I have found on  extending a mortgage offer states 'Completion must take place on or before the date the offer expires. If it is apparent that completion is likely to be outside the validity period of the mortgage offer please contact the issuing office for further guidance.

We will endeavour to meet the new completion requirements providing completion takes place within 15 days of the original offer expiry date.

If completion does not take place on or before the offer expiry date this could result in a new application being required.'

Our offer expires on 9 February and we have not signed any documents or been given an exchange/completion date yet. We still have ISAs to close down too. Really hope it will all be done in time.

Anyone else eagerly awaiting their solicitors return to work on the 4th of January?
  • Yep!! Counting down the days despite knowing full well they’ll probably be inundated on the first week back and no progress will be made on my case

    Not particularly.
We exchanged in our sale 18th Dec & complete 8th Jan. Moving into temp accommodation in Wales in lockdown & furniture etc going into storage, so we don’t delay anything.
Vendor already hassling us today to speed things up😠 (previous vendor pulled out November). Week 19 of sale, week 5 of purchase with Christmas & New Year included!
Just want it all to end soon.
Good luck to everyone hoping for positive news next week.
  • Oh yes. Due to exchange and complete on the 5th, and spent all of Christmas boring my husband with discussions about carpets.

Same here, not expecting anything to progress that week but will just feel better knowing they're open!

About to ask a "how long is a piece of string" question...
When the solicitors reopen, they should have our searches back and will be raising enquiries. How long did it take from raising enquiries to exchange for you? I know this will vary with houses, solicitors, sellers, area, etc., etc. but I'm just curious how long it took other people?
  • Same here! Due to exchange and complete on 5th so going to give the a call on Monday to check if everything is ready

We got our searches back on the 27th November. Our solicitor raised the enquiries on the 2nd of December and vendors solicitor replied to them all on the 4th December. Solicitor sent report to us on 11th confirming we are now in position to exchanged. Reviewed report and searches and we exchanged same day on the 11th. Waiting anxiously for solicitor to open on Monday, not only because they have all our funds, but that’s when we’re completing 😬. Good luck all!
  • Hi, we're waiting to exchange and complete. Our offer was accepted in August! So sick of waiting now! The searches came back a few weeks ago and the last I heard from solicitor was that they were trying to speak to seller's sols about a completion date and a query. Does anyone have any idea how long things should take now? I'm hoping to move before 14th Jan. My partner is heavily pregnant and we want to get in and get things sorted asap!
