Hi all, in case it makes anyone feel better, I had accepted my buyer's offer on my flat back in March pre-lockdown, and only just completed last week! There was no chain involved. It took 8 months, 2 lockdowns, a very unresponsive solicitor and an understandably busy buyer, so don't lose hope if it's not moving quick enough. And there is also hope of selling flats in 2020!
  • I absolutely feel all your pain. Our chain of 5 was complete at the beginning of August. We're now on the 4th completion date to be aimed for; the first being the end of October. Each time exchange was supposed to happen, something new has cropped up that could/ should have been sorted weeks ago. All excitement has now gone and we're trying not to get our hopes up for the new date. Tears, sleeplessness nights a plenty and a constant knot in stomach. This process is just awful! I actually can't imagine it ever going through at the moment and feel like we're just waiting for it all to fall apart. Fingers crossed for us all! It's heartening to read of those who have been in similar situations actually getting there in the end!
  • So... late yesterday the housebuilder's representative (my estate agent equivalent) called me and told me all was ready to go in the conveyancing, we could exchange next week and complete on the 18th. I thought, great, fine, go for it, suits me. Today, I called the solicitor to ask after things and... nope, the conveyancing isn't finished, she has lied straight to my face! He's now going to send a very narky email to them. Good grief.

He does reckon we'll exchange before Christmas though, which is something!

We have finally completed. Our short chain was complete early July so please don’t lose hope. It has been stressful and I have lost several nights sleep over it but it did work out in the end.
    Congrats :)

Update on my post from yesterday, our buyer agreed to proceed and their solicitors began requesting funds for completion tomorrow. It was going to be tight, then at 3:30pm we have a phone call from our sellers EA saying that completion won’t happen tomorrow as the person who is selling the house our sellers are buying has had a fall 2 weeks ago and is in a care home now....

We were told that there isn’t a chain and they declared in their property information form that they aren’t reliant on buying another house for their sale.... we have been pushed to complete on the 4th by our sellers, mr, our EA and solicitor had been chasing everything constantly to meet this date to find out that they have a chain and that the date wasn’t ever achievable???

Then they have the nerve to suggest exchanging on the 18th and complete sometime next year? What if Brexit causes banks to tighten lending and they look at pulling mortgage offers like what happened after the first lockdown? Eugh, I am so done with trying to move.

Thank you so much for your kind replies, it really really means a lot.

Don’t know if anyone remembers that I posted a thread about a solicitor who was very sarcastic and condescending to me and his boss (I thought) told me off via email. It was him who was causing me most of the stress. I ended up getting help from my friend’s dad who is a family lawyer and he kindly dealt with queries on my behalf. Well, yesterday I received an unprompted apology from my solicitor’s boss and actually I feel better. We even might be able to exchange mid next week!
That’s great news! I hope it works out for you.

Really? That's a thing? That's one more thing to add to the list of stuff to stress about!
Yep it is. I am stressing about it but my solicitors, agents etc are all kumbaya because it is easy for them to be like that when all the risk is with me/us

We got our mortgage offer this morning! 😃
Just waiting for the solicitors to do their thing now, may have to look at the no search indemnity insurance though as the council for the area we’re buying aren’t doing any searches until the end of January due to a massive backlog! 😩

Hopefully it’ll all go well from now ok though, our solicitor has been very good so far so I’m not overly worried about anything now!

We've just been told it's extremely unlikely we will complete before Christmas now and I am absolutely gutted :(
