Probably doesn't understand the process. No point in setting definate dates until events are allowed to unfold. Everybody has ideal dates in mind unfortunately achieving them isn't always possible.0 -

Well quite, I know this and would have thought most buyers would understand this too. Beggars belief that the estate agent would tell them anything different!May'18 DEBT FREE!

Possibly a misinterpretation of what was said. EA may have simply been trying to placate your buyer. Your buyer didn't listen to the caveats though.0 -

It appears that he was told by the estate agent that we would be completing by end of January at the latest (though they never mentioned this to me, even when I asked specifically what his constraints were ) with 10 enquiries outstanding it seems extremely unlikely that this is achievable. I could throttle the estate agent for their sheer incompetence. Utterly fuming.
Latest is we can move completion to 18th Feb, which will be much easier for me. Only two enquiries remain as things stand, so feeling a lot more optimistic. Vendors of onward purchase have also agreed to March 12th post Budget completion. Cross everything!May'18 DEBT FREE!

yorkie18 said:Hi all - we are back aboard the 'waiting to exchange' train! Quite frankly, it is driving me nuts.
Timeline
02.11.19 - We had an offer an accepted on our new (fingers crossed) home
26.11.19 - Survey completed (around this time we also had our mortgage approved)
30.11.19 - 2nd viewing of buying property to check out a couple of bits on the survey
06.12.19 - Draft contracts eventually received with our solicitors, after a 5 week delay through no fault of our own. Enquiries submitted by our solicitors to the vendors solicitors
10.01.20 - Receive a copy of the draft contracts, paperwork and responses to enquiries
11.01.20 - Raised a couple of further queries
24.01.20 - Finally receive a response to the very few final enquires
At the very beginning we were assured that all were working towards a completion date of 28.02.20. Now the estate agents are trying to push this out to the 11.03.20 due to the people at the end of the chain. No reason being given, just that they are old?!
This is only our 2nd house purchase and the last one was 13 years ago. We have sold our property without a hitch but are now living with parents - this is far from ideal and we are racking up storage costs by the day! The chain is relatively small, us - our vendor - and the house their vendors are moving into. The end house is empty.
We are being given little to no reassurance from the estate agents and feel that no one cares what date we would like or what we can work to. We don't think it's unreasonable to ask for the end of Feb which our vendors have also agreed with.
We have one more viewing to do of house prior to exchange, just a couple of bits we need to make sure have been done as promised. Our solicitors have confirmed they are ready to exchange when we give them the nod. We are waiting for our vendors to confirm when we can visit the property.
We don't understand what all the hold up is. Surely, the end of the chain being elderly isn't really a valid excuse for all the delays?
It's probably not that long in the grand scheme of things, but we can't take living without our own space for much longer, and we have been trying to move house since April last year so we've really had enough!
Any advice for dealing with slow chains/ incompetent estate agents?

I had a phone call from my solicitor today ... my "written report" is being posted to me this evening. My solicitor has waited until all the lease issues have been ironed out and the final version approved so that he can send me everything in one go :j
I had my first viewing of the property on February 1st ...
Completion is set for Friday, all being well :-)

Ahhhhhh.
I just had a call from the estate agent I'm buying via and they report that the top of the chain is now ready to complete - news to me (and the agent) because as far as we knew, the top of the chain only joined a couple of weeks ago (clearly a failure of communication from somewhere).
My solicitor still has a query outstanding, as does my vendor's solicitor for their property, but as long as those gets dealt with promptly, it looks like we might actually be able to exchange in the next few weeks!
My offer was accepted on the 26th of October, so I am absolutely thrilled to be finally in spitting distance of getting this done.0 -
yorkie18 said:We were due to exchange on Wednesday, that didn't happen. Thuesday rolled round and our vendors changed the completion date from 11th March to 13th March. We weren't happy but accepted it. However, now their vendors (and the end of the chain) want to change it to 17th March! We were originally told the completion date would be end of Feb, then early March now it's the 17th! Our vendors are not happy with this either and of course, we still haven't exchanged. The estate agents only care about the end vendors (all properties are with the same estate agent). This is getting beyond a joke!Be Kind, Work Hard, Stay Humble, Smile Often, Keep Honest, Stay Loyal, Travel When Possible, Never Stop Learning, Be Thankful Always and Love0
