I would even care if they were going to take another 2 weeks to respond if they actually stuck to that.

I just don't want them telling me what they think I want to hear if it's not true! :p
oops just realised my typo in my post you quoted - We DIDN'T lie, they did.

Well, we have had two problems solved - the electrical check DID happen and certificate is on it's way to the solicitors, and the mortar IS lime so only need to take the crappy plastic paint off not rake out the cement mortar and repoint - all good. However they won't pay for the indemnity policies (a total of £100 for builds reg and planning permission issues on two different sections of the house). Seems silly to me. But we have said we will pay for them instead. They are also cross cos they were pressured to exchange yesterday on the house they are buying (we are meant to be chain free) and couldn't and so that house has been remarketed. Much as I feel sorry for them, if they had got their forms in on time and not wasted 5 weeks there we could have been in a position to exchange as well. We were the ones who kept suggesting exchange and completion dates and they were the ones who kept pushing it back!!!!!

Do I ever want to buy a house again?

    29/4 offer accepted
    4/5 draft contract received
    9/5 enquiries raised
    31/5 some responses recieved
    25/6 exchanged on Sale!!!!
    28/6 building survey
5/7 after chasing twice a week for the last month our solicitor finally managed to speak to theirs about the outstanding enquiries. Apparently the vendor didn't respond to the last 3 and their solicitor didnt bother asking again!
31/7 recieved a couple of half answers to two enquiries..

3/8 chased agents again asking for the position of vendors onward purchase amd requesting asap exchange. More waiting....

We have to completely renovate the house before we move in, something we've never done before! Im losing motivation to want to do it all after all this!

Estate agent finally got in contact with the seller and apparently we will be receiving responses to our enquires today.

Although I'm not very hopeful because it took us 7 weeks to get draft contracts and every time they would say "you'll have it by the end of the week".

I don't understand why people can't just be honest :undecided

Seven weeks?! I've been waiting for 4 weeks and I'm starting to loose it. My vendor lied and said he wanted a quick sale from the start. As a FTB and with no chain, I thought, GREAT! He even hassled me to sort out my valuation within 2 weeks. Done.

Yet, 4 weeks after receiving the memorandum of sale he's been dragging his feet to get his paperwork to his solicitors. The EA just keeps saying, he'll sort it out by X day - and then it doesn't happen.

I'm trying to be patient and accept that it's part of the headache of buying a property but I'm tired of being lied to and tempted to begin going on viewings again.

Ug SG27 - I'm sure this whole process used to be an awful lot easier a few years back. Chin up.

It would help if blooming solicitors talked to you - I have to wait 48 hours for any reply, normally by then issues have moved on.

I lost patience about 7 months ago! Ours are trying to blame us for them losing out on their house they are buying - but it's their fault we are 5 weeks behind schedule as THEY didn't fill in the paperwork. It beggars belief. I am still watching right move, I dont believe it will happen until it happens.

Yep, FTB here too, and no chain as the property I'm buying is empty!

Apparently he went on holiday for a month before giving in the paperwork, and then they said there was a problem with the land registry that they needed to solve but wouldn't say what it was, I just think it was all stalling tactics!

I've been keeping an eye on rightmove this whole time tbh! It does help that this place is perfect and nothing even close in comparison has come up so at least I didn't have to think about whether I wanted to cut my losses and find somewhere else!

Our final search should be back on Monday, so I'm going to ring around and chase everything up on Tuesday, hopefully we're finally close to the end now!

Wednesday will mark week 13 since the offer was accepted, which doesn't seem too bad seeing as I think the average is 12 weeks and we've had so much problems?
  • I know every situation is different but how long did everyone's searches take to come back? thanks

1 week. My solicitor said some councils take up 10 weeks though. So depends where you are.
