Feeling pretty miserable about it all. We haven't exchanged and Mr Next door's son told me that although the money is coming over, it's less than they thought and his Dad is going to get a shortfall of £10k from family when he comes back. (The day we were due to complete)

Anyway, we're not exchanging until all the money is in the solicitors account as we don't want to either be liable for £15k if we fail to complete or have Mr Next door try to use it as a way to make us reduce our price (we can't do that).

So we possibly will exchange on Monday but I feel it's unlikely. What we probably need is a new, realistic date the following week.

The son is refusing to be a go between any more and has said his Dad needs to talk directly to solicitors.

Just hoping *our vendors* don't pull out.

Oops, caved in and sent a disappointed email to the solicitor anyway asking whether there was anything I could do to speed things along on Monday morning... :o:o:o

I know! Most vexing. Solicitor replied to my grumpy email :o still waiting for buyers' solicitor  have texted them to ask if they can prod on Monday morning... (I would have done that at 3pm if he'd not told me not to!)

Hey ho. One more weekend won't hurt I suppose. Humph.

I really thought it was going to happen for you today, Cheery :(

Fresh start next week when hopefully you will finally exchange!

Oh, liquoricet, that's a complete pain - somehow you just have to stand firm. Easy for me to say, of course, especially as you don't want to lose your onward purchase......but you can't let Mr Next Door walk all over you  I know when we sold our previous house, our buyers had a buyer like that - once they'd caved in to her demands she kept on making them.......

Amanda, hope your daughter is on the mend x

    Mystery kind of solved...

Just spoke to our buyers. Apparently their buyer (bottom of chain) agreed completion date - but didn't realise he had to pay deposit and exchange before that... He's now had a 'how to buy a house' lecture from estate agent, solicitor has given him details to pay deposit to (did they not do that before, or were they ignored?!), and he'll be paying up over the weekend so we should be set for Monday exchange.

As usual, I won't hold my breath.

Can't make it up, can you?? :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Cheery Daff, you are close.
How long did it take ill now and how long is the chain?

Thanks Phoebe, we aren't prepared to reduce the price on our house (this hasn't been asked yet). I'm not looking forward to next week as I suspect our vendor's EA will kick off as I'm almost certain the completion date will have to move. Frustrating as it's not our delay (bar insisting on seeing the money).

CheeryDaff, solidarity! I don't think our buyers understand how house buying works either!

We've got a skip this weekend, optimistically booked to get rid of wardrobes/a bench and other accumulated crappy. As hubby says, at least we'll have had a good clear out.

Hopefully we'll all have good news next week.
