200 pages of docs from our solicitor re our purchase, so will go through and sign relevant bits including contracts this weekend. Nothing much on our sale, but at least this buyer's solicitor knows he's intending to buy the property so that's progress on the last prospective buyer! Completion by 2nd week Jan is looking unlikely, but it's the top of the chain who are pushing for that, not us."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

So happy for you pumpkim
Our buyers solicitor is a nightmare, he’s really holding things up.
We are waiting for our buyers lender ( Halifax) to decide if the indemnity insurance for our failed environmental search is acceptable. Anyone had anything like that? It’s really worrying me. It’s apparently because an old disused building at the back of our house ( owned by the council!) was demolished in May & they couldn’t rule out that it contained asbestos so they issued a ‘fail’0 -
Congratulations pumpkin, fantastic news, I spoke to our sellers today and they said they have sent all enquiry responses back to their solicitor, so should be with ours by early next week, so still on for completion on the 15th.
Out of curiosity, how do you all transfer money for the deposit to your solicitor? If it is over your banks instant transfer limit, do you pay for chaps or do several payment over a few days? Also do any of you pay a small amount such as a £1 first to make sure you have the correct account? It’s probably the most money I’ll ever have in the bank so very nervous!!0 -

Mutley74 our sol gave us their client account sort and account number and we paid by Bacs transfer. They confirmed receipt when they got it.
Therefore, if you are thinking of doing this, before transferring the large sum transfer £1 and wait for confirmation of arrival from a trusted source (ie not an email that can be easily spoofed) before using the same details to transfer the remaining balance.
SPCome on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0 -
Good call Stumpy. I should have added that we had met our solicitor to get those account details in person and also spoke to her directly on the phone for confirmation.0

People have lost substantial sums because of them and it is very hard to recover any it. The account is cleared out and they are long gone by the time you work out what happened and technically the bank just did exactly what you told them to do, so it isn't their fault.

this was my concern, hence why I was asking how others have paid. I can just imagine paying over £200k on a debit card :rotfl:0 -
First time buyer here- joining the thread :j
Timeline so far-
Viewing of property 2/12/17
Offer accepted 4/12/17
Solicitor instructed 5/12/17
Mortgage application 8/12/17 (with a broker) we were originally going to go with a bank but they couldn't do any form of interview for two weeks which is too long really and wanted some ridiculous number of financial proof! Currently chasing all the paperwork... didn't realise how difficult it would be working 8-6 everyday to be able to sort out the paperwork as I can't generally get to the solicitors as its a bit far away from where I work! And having paperless bank statements is a nightmare r.e. proof of address so having to request all those too!
Awaiting paperwork, mortgage approvals & will direct survey once bank has carried out their basic one (getting a separate homebuyers report done)0 -
Feeling extremely stressed at the moment.
we're completely ready our end
spoke to the vendor millions of times and theyre wanting to exchange this next week
great news...
but then had a letter from our solicitor saying that so much stuff was still outstanding and that they hadnt responded to 3 letters they'd sent.
spoke to vendor who said that they'd speak to their solictors
is it me but i thought if you were eager to exchange you'd be sorting stuff and on at your solictor like crazy or is that just me...
sorry rant over..lol
we just feel really uncertain
want to exchange before christmas0
