Looking for more advice 😣 we’ve had our homebuyers report back and it looks as if it’s going to be a couple of thousands to fix the Issues which as first timer buyer is going to eat away at our savings for emergencies etc.
I am not sure how to go about it in the current housing market with It being so competitive, I don’t want to lose the property.
I’m not sure whether  I should ask for them to lower the price or ask for them to go halves on fixing the issues before we move in? I also don’t know whether to see what my solicitor thinks about this? Any help appreciated 😬
Start a new thread quoting the relevant sections of the report, they're usually nowhere near as bad as they sound to a FtB.

What were the issues @baileykxo? Homebuyer reports tend to be over cautious and at first look can seem like the end of the world!! Have you got quotes for work? If it essential works then you're well within your rights to renegotiate price
It’s all based upon what the surveyor said at the moment we haven’t had quotes done yet but will do. It’s estimated around 6k worth of work as it needs quite a lot doing to it including; windows, doors, garage is unusable due to rot and exposure (not sealed), asbestos removal, guttering redoing, insulation and a couple of other bits and bobs.
As a FTB it’s a bit scary but we aren’t to worried as it is liveable but it’s going to cost us a lot to fix the issues that they should have already fixed or at least some of whilst they’ve been living there.

@Caz congratulations, you had quite a time getting there so must be thrilled.
Solicitors thinks we will definitely exchange and hopefully complete by end of the month. I'm expecting the survey results back any day now and don't expect any shocks - never know though. My in-laws are selling and have had an epic amount of enquiries which seem stupid, "who do you have your phone line with", "what species of rose is the bush" I told our solicitor I do not want them sending out ludicrous ones to my seller, though she replied that they are obligated to which made us both laugh because of what that implied.
  • A very belated congrats to @Natbag and everyone else who has Completed!!

Commiserations to those of us still stuck in this hellish buy/sale quagmire. My sympathies to the previous posters waiting on freeholder responses to enquiries. I have been in this situation for over 2 months now. I think we are down to our last one but it is so painfully slow as my freeholder will only answer one query at a time and then takes days to respond to the next one. My buyer wants to move in before end of June and I still do not have an Exchange or Completion date as my solicitor will not even tentatively suggest one until all enquiries have been answered. I also seem to have the worlds most laid back solicitor who is responsive but seems to have a 'what will be, will be' attitude to it all. When I send e-mails stressing the tight timeframes, urgency etc she sends back a couple of lines and saying she will update 'in due course'.
So I have started packing and have quotes for storage and removals etc but with a heavy heart as I genuinely do not know what will unfold over the next 3 weeks. We plan to move into a rental before buying and I'm viewing 6 properties over the next few days but am worried about putting down non refundable deposit in case the sale falls through. Rentals around here are plentiful but we are in a very expensive part of the country and really can't afford to lose that kind of money. So stressful. I last bought a property over 10 years ago when I was carefree, single and childless.

If and when this whole horrible saga is over I will NEVER move again. Good luck to everyone!

Congrats to @Natbag and @Caz_Mnaz - been watching your progress for a while so great to see good news this week.

We're still waiting on news. 7 in the chain, 6 ready to exchange, 1 unknown. Sadly that one is in the middle and we're at the bottom.

I feel like it's the solicitors we should be chasing, but mine are uninterested in anything other than our immediate vendors. The estate agents seem to be talking to the whole chain and providing more updates, but I'm very much aware that they're not actually controlling progress at all, so chasing them doesn't really get me anywhere...

Aww good stuff @alipops1986. I'm clearing the dog out to his grandparents before I can start packing.... He's a rescue and gets really stressed when he sees boxes or cases as his last family handed him in when they moved, poor mite
