I am now a woman who trusts noone, and chases everyone. These last few days are hell!
Our buyer was late sending their paperwork, but as soon as it arrives we can exchange.
The pressure is absolutely on, given we go on holiday in 8 days and need to move before we go. Trying to hold my nerve and wait for certainty before we start booking removals, etc!0 -

Hello everyone, I've been reading your posts and in some odd way it feels good to know we are not alone. Our tale is not complicated but it is and has taken so very long. We are renting and ready to go. We have a 25% deposit, the house we are purchasing has been empty for a year. It was built by a small developer (3 houses) and was rented out initially as it was overpriced when originally on the market. So it would look like there are no problems for a straightforward transaction!
We put our offer in and it was accepted 23 November 2020. Our mortgage offer was accepted 15 January 2021. Both the vendor's and our own solicitors have been slow and rubbish at returning our calls. We were told the local searches would take 10 weeks, coming back in June 2021! Our mortgage offer runs out in early June and our broker advises that the lender only extends by 3 days! Our offer agreement included that we completed by 31 March 2021! If only!
So, a no chain, simple purchase has taken over 5 months so far! The buyer of the neighbouring property also had a nightmare of delays, they are cash buyers and have only just completed, 7 months later!! I can't believe how unmotivated the seller is, empty house for over a year, surely they want to push things as much as we do.
It has been a process that has gained stress as time has gone on. Not sure what more we can do. My partner in particular is so worried about losing this house. We are in our 50s so it has been a struggle to sort out a mortgage etc. Fingers and toes crossed that we will get this done and not lose the house.
Wishing everyone else in this limbo situation a smooth and happy outcome!

trying hard to not get too stressed and just hope and pray it all just works itself out, we can’t do anymore as our solicitor told us yesterday we are ready to exchange and only deposit monies to be transferred so got wait for chain above to play catch up! Good luck with yours too!! We will get there1 -
Yes, I think we all need to hold on to that wisdom @BountyBlink. Our solicitor also told me yesterday that we're ready to go. Now it's down to the rest of the chain...Will try to chill too, as there's not much more I can do for now.0

@Scottish_Dorset Oh, your journey sounds painful too. ThIs thread really does help though - welcome aboard!0

@birdmadgirl8 thank you.
Update from me - the deed of variation is being drawn up and signed, however, what we weren't told is that now it has to go to both the lender and also the Land Registry for updating. As soon as I heard 'Land Registry' my heart sank, because I knew that could be weeks and likely months. My solicitor says it can be prioritised but we are still looking at 4 weeks. The buyers are ok with it, but my vendor wants assurance of a May completion date this week or they've said they put the house back on the market, and we can't give them that. We can't even give them an idea of timeline really, other than hopefully 4-6 weeks, and I don't think they will accept that. I also can't convince my ex to allow our sale to complete and move out for the week or so it would take his to complete after. So my lovely house will no doubt be back on Rightmove by the weekend. My boyfriend is going to call the vendor personally this evening to be honest and to see what their concerns are to see if there's anything we can do to help alleviate them, and to basically try convince them to wait - surely 4-6 weeks has to be quicker than any new buyer could get a purchase through starting now, even cash with no searches and no survey? I'm so stressed and distraught, I really can't see us ever getting in this house.0 -
@Natbag I guess there is some good news in here somewhere for you, but the obstacles do seem relentless. I have faith in your boyfriend's negotiating skills 🙏1

So, I came in here to report some good news (husband's in a meeting so I can't tell him 😂). My agent has just told me that our buyer has agreed to move to exchange. I owe that man a pint, as he's done some serious talking round! I'm taking the positive where I can find it. We still need to sort our vendor (whose solicitor has caused endless problems), but I'm basking in relief for 5 minutes 🤗4
