    I can't see it anywhere but what is the phone (make & model), there's frequently free unlock methods out there or of course you could try ebay.

    I've scoured online inc eBay, thought I'd give MSE a try! Looks like EE themselves at 8.99 is going to be cheapest after all. Not too bad I suppose, cheaper than local unlockers anyway.

    In my experience, registering a phone with EE online often doesn't register it properly, so it appears to be registered but the unlock request doesn't get actioned.

    I've found the most reliable method is to call to register the phone/sim card and request an unlock code. There is a 25p charge to call customer service, but topping up £5 to get a free unlock code is cheaper than the £8.99 fee anyway.
