Talkmobile contract - switch to Vodafone

My husband has a rolling 30 day contract with Talkmobile, today he got a call offering him an "upgrade" to Vodafone. The caller said that this was being offered to everyone with a 12 or 24 month contract coming to an end, and gave the impression that staying with Talkmobile wasn't an option.
This came out of the blue to us so he said he'd do some research and get back to them. We found the stories about Talkmobile closing, but it seemed that Talkmobile contracts were continuing.
We both have rolling 30 day contracts (not 12 or 24 month) with Talkmobile, and for £10 a month, get more minutes and texts than we can ever use, and 4GB data.
Following a call to Talkmobile customer service, we're a little bit wiser - it seems that we'll be able to keep our current rolling 30 day contracts for "about" 18 months. They kept offering an "upgrade" to Vodafone, but it seemed to involve paying more for less.
Vodafone is the only network that gets a signal where we live, so we were delighted to find Talkmobile, and we're very disappointed that we'll have to switch, even if it seems we do have a reprieve till next year. From a quick search online it seems that Vodafone might be stopping arrangements with other networks that piggyback on their network.
It seems a bit odd to me that the only info I can find online relating to the end of Talkmobile is about PAYG. Can anyone point me to anything that gives any more info about contract users?

They aren't shutting down the contract side of things, just moving the customers to the Vodafone brand (Vodafone own Talkmobile) and it's billing systems.
If you are happy with what you have, I would just sit tight.0 -
I have had the same call last week, I have 3 contracts with talkmobile and am very happy. Also no other network comes close near my home.
I was offered good deals and told it is likely 12 months before I have no choice but to move.0 -

There is also Voxi or Lebara is you need Vodafone coverage0 -
If they offer to give you the same terms as Talk Mobile (if only for 18 months or so) on Voda then I'd consider switching.
If you get to the stage where they want you to change contract/terms then you should be able to speak to the retentions team who can noramlly sort out a deal.
Failing that use someone like mobiles.co.uk who after cashback you'll be paying around £8.50/month on a 12 month contract on Vodafone.0 -
Hi
I glad I found this thread about Talkmobile and Vodafone. I rang Talkmobile for the first time in 18 months about my current deal which I thought was running out in March 2018 but had ran out in March 2017 and I was on a rolling contract. Talking to the customer service adviser, Talkmobile are now being migrated to Vodafone (parent company) and asking customers to see if they want to migrate and are offering 50% off Vodafone packages for Talkmobile customer.
I have a fantastic deal with Talkmobile which Vodafone even with the 50% off could not match. Vodafone are good if you have high usage but I am low user so have been hunting for a new provider. Looking at ioD currently, they have good sim only contract The customer agent was lovely and she said that talk mobile customers have until April 2019 so make their decision.
Hope this information helps0 -
I’m due for an upgrade and my account states in Upgrade page iPhone 6’s £23.60 per month. I phoned last Friday 9th Mar as it didn’t say what was included. I was informed “unlimited text & calls plus 1 GB data. I’m not a big user and when I expressed I didn’t need that much I was offered 5000 texts, 500mins & 500 data for £19.20. Lol he talked so fast I wanted to have a think and having not seen the iPhone 6’s or SE I went to check it out locally and phoned them again Yesterday 11th ...........the website page still states the same price for the 6’s £23.60 but I was told this hadn’t been updated and the price was now £29.60 for what I was offered Friday for £19.60. I was furious, I asked them to honour what was stated on their website and they refused saying they didn’t bother to update it!!!?,, I said I’d be leaving then, which they replied that was up to me. I immediately phoned back this time selecting “thinking of leaving us” and got the same, rude indifferent attitude plus “well you know we’re CLOSING DOWN”......no actually I didn’t but explains why basically none of them could give a **** I asked for a manager and the agent supposedly spoke to one and said I can put you through but they’ll tell you the same thing......”doesn’t matter what the website states, we don’t update it.” and
“we can’t help it if you don’t like our prices, you’re entitled to go elsewhere”. SO I’m not impressed and don’t plan to change to Vodaphone if this is how they think they’ll win us over!?,?, I’ll either go to Carphone warehouse on their network or buy a refurbed or used one and just get a sim......or I may even stick with the Samsung I have....... NOT IMPRESSED THEY ADVERTSE A PRICE THEY REFUSE TO HONOUR to an established customer and I’ve never ever received such bad customer service,.......this needs addressing and some consistency offered:eek:0 -
Addressing by an organisation which is disappearing this month? Really?? As for Vodafone, they've always been terrible at everything.0
-
Have they only a month left??.
As an existing Talkmobile customer I’ve not been advised and my contract has over 2 months left. I’ve read various comments that they are in the process of changing their customers over to Vodaphone but not seen this time frame.......as for Vodaphone, I’ve never had any dealings with them. I was with EE previously. Guess they are all much of a muchness. If Vodaphone want to pick up Talkmobile customers they need to offer an incentive. I’m not a big mobile user and as such I’ll go with the cheapest.0 -
If they're advertising a deal which doesn't exist you can report them to the Advertising Standards Authority who will tell them not to do it again. As for customer service, would you be motivated working for a brand when your future is so uncertain?0

After my TalkMobile contract expired last autumn, I finally got a replacement contract with Virgin, gave them the PAC code and they switched it through in a couple of days.
That was that, I thought.
But no. TalkMobile continued to take DDs from my bank account in January and in February!!!
I called them today and explained but the lady insisted that they were due one month's notice after the switch. (Took 2mths DDs btw).
This is really unfair. The phone is out of contract by a month or two and they still rip an extra month (or two) of direct debits, even though there is no exchange going on, no phone calls etc. So I find I am running TWO contracts during TalkMobile's ripoff punishment for leaving AFTER my contract had expired.
That can't be fair, can it?
The lady said it was all part of their small print terms, yet I took out the contract over the phone and they said NOTHING about this notice period after contract. I feel ripped.
Any suggestions?0
