This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

AncientOfDays I can't stop thinking about your non-opening back door. I know it has been a long time now and I can't comprehend why nothing has been done. It is a real fire hazard and after the recent, very tragic tower block tragedy, I urge you to pester yet again for the door to be replaced as a matter of urgency...it really is not on
Judi, glad your youngest is OK. That's all the matters really and hopefully a lesson learnt.
Gers I concur re the Jack Reacher books, but they are light and easy, if predictable, reading when you just need a bit of 'time out'. I like Peter James too..I have a copy of 'A Twist of a Knife' on my charity shop finds still to read pile.
Posted the above in yesterdays thread but quite late on so copied it here in case it was missed.
Well I've had approximately 3 hours sleep and feel rubbish. Someone/thing left me absolutely fuming  late last night so no sleep has been the order of the night
I'm still fuming now tbh and contemplating how I handle this latest irritation (to put it mildly) without resorting to a very strongly worded email. The reality being that I will just have to put up with this latest insult and keep my mouth shut!
Anyway I do hope you all had a better sleep than I did and you all have a better day than I imagine mine will be.
Take care all x'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Morning everyone
Thank you for starting us off Karcher. Sory that you have had a bad night, it sounds like your problems are still ongoing, and you are stuck in an awful situation.
I have been awake since 5.00am again. This is becoming a habit and not one that I want. I’m starting to feel awful during the day now. Hopefully I will be able to get a nap in this afternoon. I shall do the usual and read for a while now, then come back and read the thread a little later when some more of you are up and about.
Judi I’m glad your son is ok.
Yesterday wasn’t quite the warm day that the forecast had predicted. It was a lot better in the afternoon though with some longer sunny spells so I did go for a walk in the park. It wasn’t too busy because of the weather.
I managed to get the housework up to date as well, so that’s an added bonus.
Today I am meeting my SIL in town for a coffee. She is coming over on the bus which will be a shock for her. For the past two years she has been getting a lift with my nephew when she has come here shopping because he was at college in the town.
Nothing else planned today so hope to catch up on some sleep with a long nap this afternoon.
Time to go and get some more tea and find something for breakfast.
I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.0 -
Internet ate my words.
Good morning and thank you for the thread karcher.
I have been thinking that this thread could be renamed as the intermittent sleep thread. Sorry you had such a poor night karcher, I did a bit better. Although it took what felt like hours to go to sleep, I did manage to get to 523 precisely with only one break for the loo.
I'm acutely aware of tge fire hazard. Unfortunately we are renting while househunting and don't want the huge hassle of a move at present, especially as our stuff is in storage and tge depot isn't local. The letting agent has been told over and over again about our concerns but has a dreadful reputation but I wasn't aware of that. I could tell you all sorts of tales about the state of this place when we moved in but I will save that for when we leave. Trouble is, my OH is being exceptionally picky about the next house purchase and this makes my life quite sad.
I'll be working late today so not going to work too early as it just makes for a very long day. I'm trying to reduce my hours to 3 days each week but waiting for a senior management response to an informal enquiry, if no response when my own manager returns from leave, and I know she has passed the request along, I might have to make a formal request but that's not usually necessary.
I have paperwork to do this morning and will be out and about for the rest of the day. The weather report was very unpromising last night but since it has been completely wrong for the last week, I'll just have to hope not to get soaked.
Hope everyone has the best day possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
I slept like a log last night, but that was probably due to the real ale I imbibed during the evening.
We left the marina yesterday intending to collect 2 of the DGC at Thatcham Station this morning.
But we got as far as The Rowbarge pub to find that the Mikron Theatre was putting on a play, so we moored up and stayed to watch the performance, very enjoyable it was too.
So the DGC will come to us here and we will take them for a trip towards Newbury, they will be collected this evening.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning.
We're back to dull skies and rain. At least we had two days of sunshine to keep the spirits up.
I've always woken early and really enjoy the mornings. When working in Loughborough I would quite happily wake at 4am to get on the A1 at Newcastle for the drive down. Now I'm 'retired' I still have the habit of early mornings.
My day will be quiet today. There's a few work related emails to deal with but that's about it. I'll probably get to open that new book. In the evening I've got a gardener chap coming to look at and price up the clearance project I've got in mind. I've posted pictures and advice queries on the greenfingers board.
For the past few days I've not been shopping at all so I may have to go today. Yesterday I semi cleared out a couple of kitchen cupboards and found various tins and jars at the back of them. Perhaps I'll do some proper clearing out.
Judi - hope your son recovers soon, after the swelling comes done perhaps the injury isn't so bad.
Hugs all round and happy Thursday.0 -
Morning all
Meant to be raining from 9 this morning but nothing yet, it looks like quite a nice day atm, the event at work has been cancelled due to the weather so I think it will be quieter today.
I did an assault course at work yesterday and have landed on my wrist which now hurts, when will I learn that I am no longer 18 :rotfl:
Think its mums for dinner tonight but I forgot to ring her to check but if not there is some fresh pasta in the fridge with some salad and garlic bread.
Must do a wash tonight and have a sweep through.
Have good days all xx0 -

Judi I'm glad your son is OK x
I have smart meters, love that no-one comes round to take meter readingsI have the plug-in energy use monitor thingy, it's unplugged and lives in a box with spare light bulbs and batteries, lol. As I only turn things on when I have to use them, it seemed pointless to plug it in because I'm not wasting energy anyway – except for the power it would take to run the monitor itself

We had some thunder yesterday, Scampi brought his ball to me then waited behind his flowerpot (the place he always waits when he wants to start a game, lol) and played for a few minutes, then led down in the rain (still thundering) to chew his bone. How come I can easily teach him not to be scared of storms, but not that innocent stranger leaving his house, 50ft away, walking away from us?
I don't usually do any work on wednesdays but as miss tru isn't here this afternoon, I'm going to do an hour later. Means I'll have less to do tomorrow. I'll update my own spreadsheets, hoover and do a load of washing this morning. I haven't got enough to do to fill the whole day, I'll probably end up reading my book and drooling over crochet patterns

Good morning
Thank you for the thread karcher.
Shopping done yesterday, not much happening today.
Will go and visit mother this morning.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning All
Pouring down this morning. Still, we had a few decent days so mustn't complain.
Went back to the allotment yesterday and moved a ton bag of topsoil into my new raised bed, it's still only half full! Someone keeps dumping stuff at the place so I put it all in my car and took it to the tip. If the guys who work there go in the van they get charged for it.
Went for a walk with friends last night up a big hill, the reward of a stunning view over Loch Lomond was well worth the slog, even the 14 year old lad was impressed!
Going to meet up with DD today, we are going to a wedding next month and although I have already bought a dress to wear I have no shoes or bag, we wont be long, I get bored really quickly.
Gers - interesting garden project, it could be really stunning.
Well done on the assault course RR, hope your wrist is ok.
I am astounded that some of you still have meter readers, I've been in this house for 3 1/2 years and the previous one for 14 and have never had anyone read the meters. Companies knowing how much energy I use is very low down on my worry list.
Hope you all have a happy Wednesday, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks KARCHER for starting us off. Sorry life is no better for you (HUGS) x
It's looking pretty drab outside but the forecast rain hasn't yet arrived. Doesn't look far away though.
Life is still fit around medical appointments and, once again, it's getting on top of me. Mr TA has the pre-op for the stent in Leeds tomorrow, then Tuesday TWO appointments at our more local hospital - one to check on his hand after the op and the other, the one I am dreading, to see the Neurologist for the results of his nerve conduction studies. Thursday the following week is the monthly Oncology visit. Then there will be the stent op itself and the 6 monthly scan - dates still to arrive for those. We keep saying as soon as there is a week without appointments we will have a holiday but that week never materialises.
Sorry for moaning on but I felt the need to offload a bit. Despite all his problems Mr TA still looks the picture of health (apart from the unsteadiness) and is eating well and keeps in good spirits and for all that I am thankful.
Don't know what I shall be doing today, other than a quick dust and vac round. But as we haven't done a shop since the big one before Mr TA's op I could do with just topping up on some F & V. Well stocked with everything else I think.
Off now for a freezer rummage before I can name today's eats!
Have a good day all and (HUGS) for all in need or want of them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
