OK, so what impact will the smart charging, addition of local generation, and small scale/large scale storage have? How much extra capacity does that leave us needing? My point is that the people that generate and distribute the energy don't seem bothered, so why should we be?
Have you read the National Grid prediction on "High EV"?
Page 98 & 99

This was written before the announcment this week but suggests what could happen if all cars were EV by 2050. Interestingly they have come to the same conclusion as I, 30GW.0 -
Jack. Have a look at the tesla "ludicrous" mode on YouTube.
Also the concept Renault zoe esport which has I believe 460hp.

Lots of power and good acceleration dont necessarily make for an exciting car.
Mk1 MX5
Mk1 Lotus Elise
Anything with a V8 in regardless of power, handling and speed.0 -
As i said. The ice cars have had something of a head start!
Give them a chance!
I personally am very excited by Tesla's. I think the i8 looks great and I really like the golf gte. Horses for courses0 -

The French struggle to make the electrics reliable on a normal car..............“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

It ain't just about performance.
I quite fancy one of those new Morgan three wheelers. . .0 -

One of the greatest cars of all time, the Ferrari F40, has a V8.
I have not driven the F40, but have been lucky enough to drive a few Ferraris. Whilst not one of the most popular, I found the driving experience of the 360 painfully addictive, and this also has a V8.
I hope electric cars dont catch on. A fake V8 noise from an electric car, eugh.0 -
And MY point is give the manufacturers chance. All tech starts somewhere. Just look at mobile phones.
However you can bury your heads in the Sandra's much as you like. Electric and hybrid cars are coming. They will get better. There will be classics. There will be bog standard run arounds.
I find it laughable how hostile people are to a mode of transit that is significantly cheaper than their present one. Or hostile to making that cheaper transport even better.
In the meantime I'm going to continue driving my practically free car, waving while people spend hundreds of pounds a month to burn it :-).0 -
Another anecdote I'm afraid. Back in '73, I went with a friend to a mutual friend's wedding in Manchester. We were coming back down to the Midlands in his 850 Mini estate, flat out with the windows open. Probably doing about 75 on a very quiet Sunday afternoon motorway.
All of a sudden this sound intruded. My mate said, "What's that" and I turned around in my seat, to see an AC Cobra come out of the distance behind and pass us in seconds. He was "getting a bit of a move on" The sound was glorious. A big V8 in full song. I still remember it.
I'm sure an electric car could go just as fast, but I'm afraid that I don't find the design of many modern cars "exciting" at all.
And what about that glorious sound? The leccy car is going to sound of the whistle of the electronics.0 -

I find it laughable that you assume so much.
I have owned an EV. It was so terrifically unreliable that it was returned after 12 months, almost eight of which it spent "under repair".
I'd have another EV, but using one I learnt about the disadvantages very quickly, and they're not that suitable for much of the driving I do except my short commutes to work which don't happen every day anyway.
However, I won't for one second be kidding myself that another EV will be exciting.0
