Any update on this one? I can't offer much advice, but I'd be interested to see how this turns out.
I feel for the OP in this situation - the OP seems quite intelligent from her posts, and I feel that she's been taken for a ride by an ex housemate.Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
As I found to my cost a long time ago...intelligence is no defence against getting shafted by the unscruplous
Or maybe I'm just not as intelligent as I think I am!
I think knowledge is far more useful with these legal problems.
Once bitten...etc. (feel free to insert your own unhelpful cliche here
).

Will get my other half to report back when he gets in from work as he was the one in the court room (i had little one to look after!)
The outcome wasnt great but it wasnt as bad as we thought is was gonna be!!!

Surely if you have a little one to look after, (I presume we're talking babies & not dwarfs here), you should have been in the court room clad in little more than rags, bairn balling its eyes out, have a bit of a crash diet for that gaunt look... I think you get the picture.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

Agreed Melissa. I would add that the OP entered into a contract that she didn't understand.
In the grand scheme of things I think the lesson learnt will set the OP in good stead for the future. The court probably ordered the OP to pay rent in full for the time upto handing the keys back plus any costs that the LL incurred in finding a new tenant and any lost rent upto a maximum of a month (maybe two) to cover the time taken in finding a new tenant.
The OP should ask the co-tenants to reimburse costs and buy her some flowers.

hello, sorry for delay, had PC trouble!
Ok, so court gave LA a rolloking, saying why do you need two sets of keys back and how ridiculous them claiming so much money. Then court said to tenant 1 you obviously want to defend so you can either ajorn court, prepare a defence and come back the following day OR go next door and sort it out amongst yourselves.
Went next door, and came to an aggreement to pay junes rent, plus up to when we gave keys back plus costs, so all in all £1600.
They already had £700 as our deposit so £900 odd was outstanding. This was split 3 ways, Tenant 1 (myself) paid 2/3 of it and idiot ex friend of a tenant is still to pay his 3rd.
Need to take him to court now to get back what he owes for council tax we paid, bills we paid, the 3rd of the deposit they kept plus other money outstanding.
Thankyou all who helped!is officially a GLEEK0 -
