I do a lot of 2 mile each way drives due to volunteering in the local community shop cycling not an option because of health, weather and would not like to be served by a very hot and sweaty person! I drive a diesel manual freelander would it be better to use the premium diesel in it because go these short distances?

Yes, take advantage of the placebo effect, and feel better. You won't notice the increased cost unless you do hundreds of journeys.

Really, you shouldn't use any car, especially a diesel for such short journeys, but you don't really have much choice. Certainly you should have the oil & filter changed much more often than the mileage indicates.

Search the forum, this debate has been done to death.

    Opinions that will be debated are;
    1) - not worth it, it's all a marketing scam
    2) - it's the best thing in the world and will give you a car that runs on clean air and achieve 10% more horse power than standard.

    I am with option 1

Option 3 - Add some of this http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60222-millers-oils-diesel-power-ecomax-fuel-treatment.aspx each time you fill up.

I think it's worthwhile, others may not. For the price why not try it and see for yourself.

Wife's diesel Getz was idling a little lumpy, couple of tanks of fuel treated with the above and it returned to normal.

It's only 2 miles, do you really need to drive.

Post 1 said due to health! so i pressume that the person is unable to walk the distance ( might be why they are volenteering in charity shop )

e-bike would be cheaper than trying to run a car......

When that DMF gets clogged up, it's going to cost a small fortune.

Then you've missed the truth of the matter that comes up in all those debates - the detergents and additives in premium diesels will over time keep your engine cleaner and running more smoothly.

Personally I opt for adding miller's diesel additive to regular diesel. It works out a lot cheaper and Im getting the consistency each time.

I also get my diesels services at least every 10,000 miles or once a year.

Premium fuels do have detergents added that should give a long term benefit to your engine. They wont suddenly increase hp or mpg but over time should show some benefit.

Your driving pattern is as bad is it gets for an oil burner. How old is your car? If its got a DPF then you really will need to do some longer drives at the weekend or something (adding fuel additives can help DPF clean to happens at lower temperatures) or you will get a very expensive bill down the line.

    I think you mean DPF.
