I'm back from DD's - yesterday was spent driving up and down the M25 A1 thanks to Amazon. I'd ordered DD a dog pen (at her request) and she decided to return it so I went on the site and they said they would collect it but I changed the address so that they would pick it up from mine. When I got home with it the site was saying I had to post it, impossible as it's very heavy. When I rang them they said that they would only pick up from DD's tomorrow, so off I went again.

Sorry, boring saga. In other news the puppy is an absolute delight - toilet training is progressing (apart from when SiL is in charge, TRU) and she plays by herself or with people very happily and she settles herself to sleep perfectly in her new bed. Hopefully things will continue smoothly.

DH is home in bed with an ear problem, he woke this morning and standing makes him feel very sick and dizzy, even turning over in bed makes him feel dizzy. He's waiting for a call from the Dr, hopefully it's an infection and a course of ab's will clear it up.

DS and DiL have a second viewing on their house, fingers crossed it goes well so that they can get their dream house.

Had a lovely lie in this morning after a long drive back from Cornwall yesterday afternoon. DS1&2 must have been shattered after a morning of swimming and the journey as they didn't wake OH and I this morning!

The kitten hasn't left me alone since our return bless her. I was glad to sleep in my own bed last night but am missing the seaside already!

No plans for today, and probably won't do much on first day back, but OH is off until Thursday so I'm looking forward to time together.
Already put a load of washing on before I went to bed (felt really pleased with myself for that haha!!) so will get that hung out - on the airer under the car port judging by the clouds!

Judi I'm glad no one was hurt
Holly I hope you don't feel too tired all day and get a good sleep tonight.
    Hugs to all who need.

    Morning :hello:
I have been trying to post for the last 30 mins but DH has been chewing my ear off about something really interesting. ( To him that is,not to me, so I hope I nodded and smiled in all the right places :rotfl:)
Anyway the DW is on and I have washed the hall mats as DH had mud on his shoes and wiped them in the said mats . In his defence he said" that's what they are there for " . Couldn't argue with that :(.
As the weather is sunny and dry today I shall try to get out into the garden because I noticed my herb pots need weeding ... who mentioned that ? come on own up ? Not only are there weeds but I think our resident squirrel had buried some of his nuts in there as well. Oooh er misses :rotfl:.
DH will be taking DD and family to the train station at 1pm, as they will spend tonight at a hotel, because they fly early tomorrow morning.
Sorry if half this post makes little sense as DH is still wittering on about something else now :rotfl:. He's not usually this chatty !
Tea tonight will be stir fry as we are both definitely back on the diet. ( Again :( )
Judi glad that youngest is ok, Maybe he'll settle down now..... driving wise.
Gers enjoy your reading. I find that I never seem to find enough time to read at home, only on holiday. Must try harder.
Holly thanks for starting us off. Hope you can get more sleep soon.
Deleted_User I'm with Swalec ( subsidiary of SSE ) and I keep getting bombarded with letters and emails about a smart meter. I flatly refuse to having one at the moment as I think it will put a lot of people out of work i.e. meter readers. However I also read somewhere a 2nd generation meter is better. I for one will refuse until they are compulsory, so there :p. Sorry this " nanny state" rubbish really annoys me :mad:.
I'll get down off my soapbox now and me thinks I need more coffee :coffee:.
Enjoy the rest of your day all

csarina - I have a smart meter installed by OVO. It has never been plugged in and is in a cupboard somewhere but the batteries must still be working it as I get a bill every month.

It saves having to read meters every month, particularly difficult in this house as the gas meter is outside and it's difficult to see in the dark!

I had a message from SSE yesterday about having a smart meter installed, I guess they have realised I put in weekly readings. OH is not keen, have any of you got smart meters and have you had any problems with them?
The only thing that I have heard about them is that the current generation of meters are not interchangeable between suppliers, so the meter installed by SSE would not be compatible if you changed supplier. I'll have a look for some information on this later to see whether or not it is correct.

Mix 150 g cornmeal, a tablespoon of flour, 2 tsp of baking powder, 1 finely chopped onion, an egg, seasoning and milk to make a thickish batter. Leave to rest, then drop teaspoonfuls into
    Hottish oil, fry until golden.

Some recipes want you to add sugar, I don't. I do add thyme and a fair amount of whatever seasoning, pepper or whatever I want. This is not a healthy side dish. Nice with coleslaw.
Many thanks for this. I've copied'n'pasted it to my recipe file for later use. ;)

I was reading recently that they will not actually be compulsory after all. We've decided we definitely do not want one; it feels far too much to me like the energy company snooping on me; and a most assuredly don't want something wagging it's virtual finger at me if I dare to switch something on as I'm the sort of person who would sit in the dark and shiver if moaned at for spending money, even if the moaning was being done by a machine. :( It takes but five minutes to read our meter, and we can submit the readings online, and are happy to do so, so I see no need for us to bow to the pressure to have a smart meter. Sorry, it's a bit of a "soapbox subject" for me. ;)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

I was wondering about these and have had a phone call about them from EDF a few weeks ago. The young lady said they could come to fit one at a certain date, and when I looked on my calender I said no sorry, can't do that day and gave her a choice of three other days when i would be around. She checked and said no can do, but would get back to me, and so far haven't heard a thing :)

I was wondering as my son-in-law has one and it was plugged into the mains so he could read it .Now maybe I ambeing dense but surely it defeats the object of saving if you have a meter running off the mians as you will be using electricity to run it ??

On the subject of smart meters - my ex was on the national panel of technical experts for the development of them (he works for Northern Grid or whatever it's called now) and he's adamant that they are just a waste of time and resources. In fact he's quite rabid about it, wrong technology, not interchangeable, have too many mistakes etc etc.

My vegan brownies turned out a bit flat, think the tin I used was too big, but my friend really enjoyed them (so she said) and has gone home with a doggy bag.

As we were chatting outside about gardens another neighbour stopped on his way home to point out that the copse down the field was stuffed with raspberry bushes - he'd got about 4lbs out yesterday. I don't think access is easy and can't understand why we haven't spotted it before as they are all just on the other side of the track. Not going exploring today!

I did a small quick wash (great idea JackieO) and it's now all dry. My new bistro-style garden table arrived and is waiting to be put together. Just the top to be screwed onto the legs, though the instructions look a little complicated. I'll look at it later.

My book hasn't been opened yet! I need to eat something first and want to catch the postie as there's a few things coming from Am*zon, and I've a letter to post so he'll take it.

The sun isn't a strong as yesterday and the wind is up again, yesterday may have been our summer. I'll have to cut the grass today as rain is forecast for the next month. :rotfl:
  • Now this will be no help I know but the chap from Money Box was saying he doesn't recommend Smart Meters but, unfortunately, I can't remember why!! I think it was something to do with problems arising if you want to change supplier. I can't remember the exact tale. Mr TA is having a nap but I will ask him if he remembers when he wakes up!

The Sports Day was enjoyed by all with lots of mums and dads and grandparents cheering on. Middle DGD's team (The Yellow Team) were out and out winners so much gloating was going on afterwards - especially as they won last year too!

Lunch eaten and now it's feet up on the sofa for the afternoon. I'm struggling to get into my current book but will give it one more attempt before it gets passed on to my friend. If the sun manages to get out (it's trying!) I shall decamp outside!

Hope you can enjoy the rest of the day folks and take care xx
