Gers I love Peter James books he came to our local library a few month ago to talk about his writing and he is such a jolly chap and very unassuming. Our local council put on 'meet the writer evenings' and they really are great fun and I have enjoyed them all, plus they are free with tea and coffee thrown in :)Mark Billingham is also a good story teller and I am always pleased when he writes a new book .My favourite Scots chap is Stuart Macbride though, he only writes one book a year and its always worth waiting for ,set in Aberdeen its quite gritty at times but his anti-hero cop is pretty good0

Morning all,
Drizzling here today,I had hoped for good weather so DGS & I can stroll up to the park later, lets hope it clears up.He left his pre-school yesterday and will start his school nursery in September.DS said the staff were really sad to see him go and thought he should carry on until then. Not sure why DS ex is stopping him going early although they are away next week.
Not much else to report. There is an extension being built 2 doors up,so that soft pooch of ours is hiding upstairs most of the day.She had me up in the night so I stayed on the sofa,DH was snoring fit to bust in any case  so I feel a bit washed out this morning.
Judi, glad DS was ok,and that you heard about Prodigal too.
Hope you all have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Holly, hugs to all those in need.
CHS has been delivered to work, I've done a small shop, we have DGC's spending the day tomorrow so I've bought a few treats for them.
Plans today include wiping the inside of the boat with a damp cloth and making cottage pie for tea.
There was a kingfisher on my tiller yesterday evening, first one I've seen so close.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
Bright and dry this morning but thankfully not as warm as yesterday, my car registered 29 degrees at about 4pm!
I was busy yesterday, went to the gym (no danger of me overdoing it but thanks for your concern) - I do find it incredibly boring but like the way the machines tell you how many calories you have used. Followed the gym with a swim which I do enjoy.
One of my neighbours' children have gone to stay with their Dad for a couple of weeks so we went for a cycle to the next town so I could order some currency for going to Poland next week, probably about 10 miles in total, it was lovely to cycle along the river where there was a slight breeze.
After that it was a trip to the allotment, I have been given another raised bed but it needs filling - I moved about half a ton of topsoil into the bed but had to give up as it was too hot and I was burning. I'll probably go up again today to try to get some more done.
All the washing is up to date, no ironing. Must do a little more woodwork waxing today.
Judi - glad DS is ok, cars can be fixed.
Mrs LW - I had the same this morning with magpies, very entertaining but very loud at 4.30!
Hugs to anyone in need.
Take care. XX0 -
Thank you Holly for the new thread. Bright and sunny here, but with cobwebs on the lawn!, seems a bit Autumnal.
Quiet day planned, a mooch around the CS in town, some gardening, a little very light housework, and perhaps sort out the books to be read versus the ones that can be donated.
I have just spent a glorious 10 minutes watching a juvenile blackbird, first of all drinking from a 500g butter container and then having a rather restricted bath, quite made my day:D:D:D (When the weather became so dry I put 3 or 4 plastic containers at various sites in the flower beds and kept them topped up with clean water, I had watched birds drinking many times, but not had the pleasure of seeing the morning bath before.
Judi - sorry about DS accident, hopefully it will make him be a little more sensible, hate to think how much his insurance will cost:(
HH - I love to see Kingfishers, before moving here I lived just a few yards from a ford and loved to see them flitting about with the sun catching their coloured feathers.
Have a good day everyone. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Morning everyone,
Dull and overcast here and more rain forecasted, would like summer back now please! we were both quite cold in bed last night and I needed to get another blanket from the airing cupboard.
I need to do the bathrooms today and sweep through the bottom floor, other than that my time is my own so depending on the weather I might take the little dog out for a good run this afternoon, they only had two short walks yesterday which is fine by my old girl but mad spaniel will be bouncing off the walls soon
Sorry to hear about DS's car Judi but as others say it might be good in the long run to slow things down a tad.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Youngests first years insurance was a tad over £1600. Last year it dropped to £1400. His insurance is up on the 1st August and he was looking forward to his first no claims discount. Looks like a hefty increase instead. What is it with the males in my family? Love them loads but they are idiots. Quick update he has had a day off work as he thinks he might have a fractured finger. If he has I hope it's his left hand as he's a right handed electrician.
Looks like a lovely sunny day ahead. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Jings it's a busy thread this morning.
Good morning to you all.
I remembered to take something out the freezer yesterday so dinner tonight is chicken with steamed veg. I'll probably go a run for half an hour just to keep me ticking over.
My friend is a boxer and has announced a fight in Liverpool at the end of September. My friends are looking to go and make a weekend of it but that means money so I think I'm going to have to pass. Really need to with the Euro Millions soon.
Judi - If it's not one thing, it's another. Relieved that nobody is injured and lessons learned. That was me 10 years ago I got a 9 month ban and I've been a much better driver since.0 -

Yes, I agree. I've dug out the Peter James book from the pile 'Want you dead', it's been in the pile since 2014.
I tend to stick to the Tartan Noir genre unless something special pops its head up. Mark Billingham and instance.
Vegan brownies in the oven, I'm not sure they'll be as tasty as ones with egg in, however I live in hope.
The sun has gone behind cloud, better come back as I've raked a washing load together and it's chugging away. I've also found the bottle of sunscreen last used in March 2016 when I was in Melbourne. There's no BB date but, as it's 50+, I expect I'll be fine on our weak Scottish sunshine.0 -
Morning ((((((((((Hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Judi, hope your DS slows down a bit, unfortunately some people never learn....hope he is not one of them.
Dull morning again, we are due bad weather, it was so cold last night I ended up wrapped in a fleece blanket with a hot water bottle, and we bot had one in bed. This morning the heating came on at 7am, so it must have been very cold. I had turned the thermostat down, but did not put the timer off, its off now, we both have extra clothes on, we can shed them if it gets warmer.
I had a message from SSE yesterday about having a smart meter installed, I guess they have realised I put in weekly readings. OH is not keen, have any of you got smart meters and have you had any problems with them?
Spag bol for supper, mince is out will make the sauce this morning, give it a bit of time to 'mature'.0
