This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I’ve been up since 5.00am again. I try to get back to sleep but it doesn’t happen, and unfortunately I feel so exhausted now. On the plus side I am enjoying reading first thing in the morning.
My shoe shopping expedition was fruitless yesterday. I find it so hard to find comfortable shoes that I like, so I will have to keep looking.
Today is supposed to be dry and a bit warmer than yesterday, if it turns out that way I should be able to go for one of my walks around the park. It is very busy during the school holidays though, so I may have to start thinking of somewhere else to go for a walk.
This morning I want to get on with some housework. I cleaned out all of the kitchen cupboards yesterday and sorted out all of the contents. There are a few bits that need to go to the CS at some point.
Other than that I don’t have any plans for the day.
Time to go and get some more tea and find something for breakfast.
I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.0 -
Good morning, a quick hello from me as I need to get ready for work. Washing done and ready for OH to climb out of the window to hang it out, looks like a nice day.
Slept for 7 hours, not bad at all. Hope everyone has a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hush Puppies
Mix 150 g cornmeal, a tablespoon of flour, 2 tsp of baking powder, 1 finely chopped onion, an egg, seasoning and milk to make a thickish batter. Leave to rest, then drop teaspoonfuls into
Hottish oil, fry until golden.
Some recipes want you to add sugar, I don't. I do add thyme and a fair amount of whatever seasoning, pepper or whatever I want. This is not a healthy side dish. Nice with coleslaw.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning
Forecast is for a nice day, so think we will go shopping in Waitrose, free coffee, I won't be left to payI have some coupons £6 off £30 spend.
No idea what else I'll be doing, but that's the pleasure of being retired.
plenty of tomatoes and courgettes in the garden, so they will be part of this evenings meal.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning all
Nice day in the making looks like its going to be a scorcher again, will be busy at work today although a lot of our schools don't break up till tomorrow.
DD is off today and off to a spa with her pregnant friend, the spa specialise in expectant mums and it a treat from the dad to be as mum was getting stressed, I think they are out for dinner and a show too so hopefully a nice day.
Just OH and I for dinner and I think there might be some fish in the freezer will go and have a look after this, I have new potatoes and veg I the fridge.
Had two separate blokes round last night to price the driveway so waiting for quotes now, I have no idea about the cost so hope its not too much.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
Looks like a beautiful day today. Think we had better go and see this steam train that hubby so badly wants to see before the weather changes. He's wanted to see it the last few times we've been here but the weather hasn't been good.
We come away to leave family drama behind us and yet again it has followed us. Youngest had his first accident in his car last night coming home from work. Now fortunately no one was injured but it's not done either car much good and I had to coax youngest to drive back after all formalities were completed. Totally Youngest fault. A touch of over confidence and burning the candle at both ends. He's learned the hard way. No excuses. Even the reports on his black box say he drives like a loon. I'm just so glad neither party was injured.
Livewires birthday today. He's 4. He's my Superstar!
Had a lovely visit from one of the full time residents of the site. 70 years of age with the body of Adonis and the personality to match...he's a bit of a ladies man though which I find off-putting. He doesn't flirt with me though. He tried but I didn't respond. He's got a 6 pack most men would be proud of and a mop of wild silver hair. He's got a weakness for cream cakes and fine art and is never short of female company.
Onwards and forwards

Morning folks and thanks for the start HOLLY. I had a semi good sleep last night so not complaining.
It's overcast here but the sun is forecast to keep peeping through. And for a change no wind! We are off to the combined sports day for youngest and middle DGDs this morning. DD picking us up at 10.00.
I have got some oddments from the freezer to plate up when we get back. So lunch will be quiche, sliced pork loin, chicken & bacon pasta and some salad. Nice 'n easy. Also defrosting is a tub of Bolognese for Mr TA to have with pasta tonight and I am having a piece of dusted & seeded haddock (a la M & S) with salad and new pots. Quite an easy cooking day.
We both enjoyed a lasagne for late lunch yesterday and, as hoped, the pub had quietened down by the time we got there. (Apart from the manic young lad tearing around at top speed for no apparent reason, totally ignored by his parents! Grr!)
Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Take care all xx
ps Oh JUDI it never rains but it pours does it? Glad youngest is ok and let's hope he has learned a lesson through it."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good Morning all, and Judi thank goodness only the cars were hurt, cars you can replace, family you can't.May make him drive better strangely enough My eldest DGS had a 'bump' a couple of years ago and it slowed him down quite a bit and he learned the hard way that driving too fast has consequences, not only to people but to his pocket for repairs.
Today the sun is out and looks like its going to be a fine day ahead so i have put a small half hour wash on which will get hung out before I go off on my grandson sitting duties .I decided that a couple of smaller washes per week at half an hour 'daily' ones on my machine was preferable to a no. 3 wash which true did all the washing but took 115 minutes As stuff is only very lightly worn it seems to work better for me and I don't get a huge pile of ironing to do either Every 10-12 days I will do the bedding with a slightly longer wash. Small savings, but hopefully helpful OK if you live alone as I do, but probably not practical if you have a family.
Going to drop DGS Jack at his summer job this morning his weekend job at a cafe has asked him if he would cover some of the holidays so he is quite happy to do thatExtra pennies towards his holiday funds.
Quiz night tonight ,so no cooking for me to do .
Hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Good Morning, we woke up this morning to two jackdaw having a conversation on the roof just above the window, they make such a gorgeous range of sounds it really sounds like they are talking to each other. It went on for a few minutes and had me in fits of laughter, I swear they were putting the world to rights in exactly the same way we do!
Nothing specific planned for today but I have some ironing to do and the plots are producing lots at the moment so things to go into the freezer will made and frozen too. It looks like a good potato harvest and He Who Knows has almost finished lifting the main crops because the tops have gone over, good sized spuds too so many jackets our future!
He Who Knows is off to collect DD1 tomorrow and take the Pushycat to the kennels as DD is off to kayak the Norwegian fijords for a few days on Friday with a group of friends, sounds fab.
Have a good day xxx.0 -
Morning everyone..
Looks lovely outside again though rain is coming our way.
I've got a neighbour coming to visit about 11am to discuss gardens with me. Once I'm fully up and dressed I'm going to make some vegan brownies for her.
There will be more sitting outside in the sunshine reading, there will be plenty of time for chores when it's raining. Yesterday I got through the Jack Reacher short stories though I found them fairly unsatisfactory and formulaic. Today a different author- Peter James I think.
Happy Tuesday to all.0
