TKPeters. home-textiles is parcelforce, not dhl. ;)

So it is JJJ, couldn't remember which eBayer we used for PF, as the sale was null & voided after their little infringement of one of eBay's policies

    Hi
What are the insurances like if an item goes missing on these couriers and which is the best for arriving to collect when specified? I get parcel to go as £5.99 +VAT that is £7 odd

Insurances are normally £100 with DHL & £150 with Parcelforce although some will offer to increase it for a premium.

P2G are running a special offer over the RM Strike period discounting their normal £5.99 + VAT rate to £4.99 + VAT

Am I reading this right? These methods are going to be more secure than using say Recorded Delivery to send a 2KG package? Or even, using Special Delivery to send 10KG (£20!!!).

I was all pro Royal Mail until this all started happening, but it does seem that these couriers are alot cheaper too?

Royal Mail really are shooting themselves in the foot.

Or being shot in the feet...

The downside for somepeople is that you have to wait in all day for DHL to collect your parcel, while you can drop your parcel at the post office (if, that is, it's not been closed down by our forward thinking government).

Are you able to drop your parcels off at the depots though? We have a DHL depot about a mile up the road and a ParcelForce one a few miles away.

    Maybe.

One of the joys of Staples DHL service while it lasted was being able to offload all the parcels first thing and not have to wait for the yellow van to appear.

The fact that I can't afford to wait in all day for collection is why I am unable to use couriers and have to continue to use the Royal mail. It is also why at the moment I prefer to avoid sellers who use couriers, unless of course it is an absolutely mega item that obviously can't come any other way.

It would be interesting to see if any couriers on the cheaper side find a way of offering collection and delivery slots..like Tesco do with their shopping. If I could choose a collection within a 2 hour time frame including evenings then I might be tempted , likewise if I could arrange a delivery easily via an online system and have my items delivered at a time convenient to me I would be very interested.

Talking of Tescos, they (or Sainsburys) could quite easily operate a parcel service, as they have the stores to allow drop off, the hubs and fleets of lorries for distribution/logistics and the delivery vans to get the parcels delivered.

problem is most make these cheap prices by using owner/drivers so not directly employed.its down to the owner/driver how many pick up's/deliveries to get through to earn more cash
