:) I have an unwritten rule that the same blouse doesn't appear twice at the same venue (work or leisure) in the same week. Some colleagues can be a bit beyatchy if they think you're not keeping up with the rest of them in terms of personal appearance. My work trousers are generic black items and I have several pairs which are idential apart from minor details at the waistband, which is normally under the blouse anyway.

Overall, my form of attention to personal appearance is to do the minimum necessary to make it clear that I am paying attention whilst actually spending very little time, effort and money doing so. It's about blending in and getting on with the things I consider to be important.

When I was young and daft (sub 21, basically) I made a point of wearing very odd clothes and even odder hair-styles and hair colours and ringing lots of changes. I had a lot more time on my hands then than I have now, plus getting to choose one's own clothes and not having to obey rules about hair and shoes etc was still a novelty worth playing about with.

Besides, once you've got a few decades' of adulthood under your belt, you realise that very few people give a damn what you wear, as long as you're not visibly dirty or dishevelled or stinky.:rotfl:

I despise those judgemental types - they're usually in 2-income households and have the spare money to spend on themselves. Stuff 'em I say.

I used to see it in offices - many pristine/smart women in posh clothes ... smart sports cars outside .... and an OH somewhere earning "the real money". They have the spare cash to splash on themselves and looking good.... my head is full of more important things, like will I be able to reach payday and have the spare money left over to fix the fence/gutter ... or will a storm hit before then and wipe out any hope of "it lasting"

:) Most of my colleagues are full-timers with full-time partners. I'm a singleton with two-thirds-of-a-job (ill health limiting my work hours) so have to get creative.

Last week I wore tailored linen blouses and silk shirts. All from chazzers and I don't care who knows it.

We'd know about it if you post on the 'charity shop bargain' thread (I can't remember if you do or don't). :D
    I'm a charity shop shopper - loud & proud.

On a similar theme - what do people do about footwear?
I have a lot of shoes (and I mean a lot) and keep some in their boxes, wrapped in tissue paper.
The rest are in a 'shoe wardrobe'.

When I take them off, I don't put them away until the following morning or even leave them for a couple of days if they are UGGS that I've worn all day.

I try to get two days out of everything except pants & socks. I don't put back in the wardrobe though but hang over a chair once worn. I quite often pop things (not under or nightwear) through a rinse cycle with a little fabric conditioner if they are worn but not actually soiled to freshen them up.

I do this too with the exception of the white linen trousers I wear most days in the summer which I wash (and iron) after every wear. And I don't have a clothes chair because of my neat freakishness so anything due to be worn again the next day is folded and left on top of the laundry bin. If then I don't wear it the next day it's washed.

Generally speaking, I'd fold the garment neatly over the back of the bedroom chair, and make a point of wearing it again the next day.

The only exception would be if it's something I'd put on for an hour for some sort of special appointment and am not likely to want to wear again for quite a while; then I'll make a snap decision whether to wash it or just put it away. I can't remember the last time that occurred, though.

Pollycat & Grey Queen I too am a chazzer shopper - I hate clothes shopping at the best of times, and I especially hate paying through the nose for clothes!

Pollycat - re shoes: I don't have all that many, but the couple of pairs I wear most are on the shoe rack in the bedroom (Mr LW's shoes take up a good three quarters of this). Most of the rest are on a shoe rack inside a wardrobe in the "spare" room; the only exception is the sandals I wore for our wedding, which live in their original box in the bottom of the wardrobe.
I don't wear footwear at home at all, and frequently remove it when I'm out if I can get away with it (I use a wheelchair, btw).
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

I only work 3 morning a week, and a have a self styled work 'uniform' I will wear the same trousers for the 3 mornings, but different tops. I change into my 'comfies' when I get home, the tops will be worn again the following week, hung on the back of my wardrobe door, the trousers washed after the 3 mornings wear and undies obviously changed everyday, bra's worn for 3 or 4 days i.e. 2 per week

DD went through a stage of putting her entire 'floordrobe' in the wash, worn or not - like someone else said, they were hung out 'aired' folded and returned to her 'lair' ;)
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

:p I only have one pair of shoes and one pair of sandals and they live either on the floor or on the floor of the boiler cupboard. I have awkward feet to fit and count shoe-shopping on a par with having a root canal filling, I detest it that much.

Best find lately at a chazzer; Per Una cardi for 50p, not the right season for it but it's laundered and sitting neatly on a hanger waiting for October, or whenever I need it.

  • I wear my shreddies for a fortnight. On Sunday I turn them inside out. No problem, a bit of cologne and the stench goes awry!
