after all, you wear a coat and put that back in the wardrobe without dry cleaning.

But you don't usually wear a coat next to your skin as you do a dress, skirt, shirt, trousers - and the OP mentioned 'shirt, top, sweater'.

If its just been worn for a wee while (one of my jobs I wear my own clothes - sometimes just for a couple of hours) then they go back in wardrobe. Jeans and things can be worn for 3 or 4 days before I even consider washing them.....unless the dog jumps on me or something like that. My pjs are the same - few days then wash but my bra is another story. It doesnt get washed as much as it should (I do have more than one but this one is my favourite!!).
DS on the other hand cannot keep clean. He's only 10 but his clothes are worn for a day then washed - no exception (not even for his PJ's).
Bedding is washed weekly without fail.

Hang them up to wear again or sling over the back of a chair but leave them out. I don't like putting clothes I've worn back in the wardrobe or drawers with the clean stuff. It's not logical, just how I feel.

Good heavens! When a clothe is clean and not smelly why on earth would you wash it?

Growing up we had 2 sets of school uniform, one for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and one for Thursday and Friday. One set of mucking about clothes for Saturday and Best for Sunday. If Saturday's clothes weren't too dirty they were put back for next week. Sunday best could be worn many times, you did nothing to make anything dirty on Sundays!
OK, these days of washing machines makes things a lot easier and we can all be cleaner, but I do think that some people go to ridiculous lengths. If they had to wash everything by hand they may not be quite so profligate with the detergent.

If it's been worn inside the house and is "clean" (i.e. I've been in my study all day) then I fold them up and put them in a designated "in use" crate to use again another day.

If I have been outside the house, on the tube or sitting in a public place (even if it's just been a couple of hours), I air them and leave them on the bannister. I'll wear them several times and then wash them. I find it more efficient to do this and then wash them and move on to another range of outfits, rather than use lots of different clothes during the same fortnight.

If I've been wearing an outfit all day to work and it's been hot / I've done a lot of walking, then it goes straight into the laundry bin.

    Lordy!
I'm wearing my 3rd bra of the day!
#1 I put on when I first got up, changed into a proper sports bra to do my hour long exercise regime, then put on a 'best' one for going out.

I'll change into the first one when I get home.
I'll wear each one for 2 or 3 days then chuck them in the laundry.

I wish the guy sat in front of me on the bus washed his clothes more often.
Thankfully he's got off but the stale sweat stink remains.

I try to get two days out of everything except pants & socks. I don't put back in the wardrobe though but hang over a chair once worn. I quite often pop things (not under or nightwear) through a rinse cycle with a little fabric conditioner if they are worn but not actually soiled to freshen them up.

:rotfl:the exception is my sports bra which gets washed every time I do my whites. It gets pongy quickly - I have to admit to being hot all the time and I do get stupidly sweaty when doing any exercise. Also I should add that when I get in from work at night I take my bra off (just my son and I at home and once I finish work its his bed time so I can't go anywhere anyway)

    Evening

I have a chair in my bedroom that is a 'pending' chair - where go all things that Ive only worn for an hour or two. (often an 'at home' top and trousers changed for me going outside or garden or painting clothes)

Underwear gets changed everyday (including bras - I used to change these every other day and then got an infection under my b**bs which was a great nuisance and took ages to heal (under doctor's instructions) so now its everyday for those too).

Bedding changed every fortnight as there is only me and I wear PJs or if v hot a nightie.

However, i would make a plea to those with kids - you may not realise that they smell sometimes but they do! As an ex teacher of special needs and excluded children (where we had to get physically quite close to them ) it makes the job really horrible when clothes/ child reek of cigarette smoke/ weed/ last night's tea/ just sweaty unwashed. It must be the same for them so I always had fresh tops each day and new trousers every otherday. Please dont assume your kids are changing clothes/ showering - check the little rascals! :rotfl:

    thanks folks

I'm glad I,m not the only one who has clothes hanging around as "work in progress " in the bedroom. Mine are mostly draped over over a radiator and my husband's uses two surplus dining room chairs in the bedroom which I call "the living wardrobe" because no matter how regularly i pack his stuff away, by the end of the week they!ve usually accumumukated about three sweaters or fleeces, a couple of shirts and Tee shirts and a couple of pairs of trousers! I always smile wryly when I see these Household Style type magazines. The bedrooms are always immaculate and nobody ever seems to live in them.
