It's ok adr0ck, I was being a little tongue in cheek.

I think that after this place (2 extensions) we will hopefully build our own place, I say build but it will be timber frame clad in brick.

You also have to be approved. You go to Ikea and fill in a form. You are then assessed. They ask about income/savings and who will live there with you etc.

And if they are oversubscribed, the BBC News this morning said they'd chuck your name in a hat and pull out names.

Further on from that, there would be clauses about reselling. They'd have to revert back to one seller, and your house would be sold again to people who met similar criteria. Another reason that lenders may at first have an issue with these. Although this clause is quite often present in SO houses.

Does this mean that the house gets sold back to the developer, then sold on again?

I really quite like this site and usually find that people are supportive and give good advice.

    I wonder what happened here

I find the cynicism and bandwagon jumping re cowboys etc that is going on quite distatsteful and symptomatic of one-upmanship. This isnt the site on which one expects to find smart alecs, rather the opposite

Best of luck to those trying to buy an affordable home. Loads of us go to Ikea...

Hi, I thought i'd imagined this, who in their right mind would buy a flat packed house from Ikea for 90-150k. Come to Bradford and ill gladly sell you my 2 bed house for 100k, its even got its own pitch and wont swell in the rain.

I notice you are in Gateshead. Would you pay £90,000 for a flat round there, or £120,000 for a "flat pack" house? I did a search on Rightmove and that money would appear to get me a conventional 3 bed semi without too much difficulty but then I don't know the specific areas.

I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Not sure it's the developer, but it is the organisation that receives the form and does the "choosing" of the buyers

Further to another currently popular thread, chap wondering whether to leave Grimsby. I searched rightmove and you can get a number of flats there under £40k. Looked dead nice too!

Property isn't expensive everywhere. Just most places.

There are many parts of the country (including good areas) where there is a choice of properties under £100k.

Yes, you can get a semi in Gateshead for 120k, in fact you can get them for 80-100k in some nearby areas, so not sure what is the point of these flat-pack houses because they're not any more affordable than other properties! Who in their right mind would buy a flat-pack house when you can get a proper house for the same amount or less?

As an aside, did anyone notice that the BBC website said the houses were for those on "low incomes" of 15-35k? Blimey, if I had 35k I'd think myself rich! On the other hand, there's no way these houses will be affordable for those on 15k, as the mortgage payments wouldn't be much less than their total income.
