:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: And people think I'm weird?!
It's just unidentified (by some) genius.
This avo I'm going to try the MK thing of making my wardrobe "rise to the right" in clothes lengths. This is the opposite of what I do now, but,I'm going to try the different approach, just for fun....:rotfl:"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." I've long since been focussing the wear & tear on just a few pairs of socks, in order to wear them out for ragging. Even on such heavy rotation, it takes a lot of time to wear out socks, would you believe?
GQ I found that's one of the unexpected MK benefits when you have less stuff, you're suddenly able to get an accurate sense of how long something lasts....which I can attest is normally yonks longer than you thought it did...cotton/poly blend is tough stuff! :rotfl:
This week I have kondo'd a kitchen, which was badly designed and didn't have much storage space and for the first time, it looks as if there is going to be more space than stuff....:j I'm sure not buying extra stuff over this year is what enabled me to finally save enough for it.
Itching to get rid of more stuff though - I think it's my flat being topsy turvy which triggers the urge to declutter.0 -
I'm going to a new charity shop tomorrow and asked my husband if we had anything to donate to them. He said "No, you have got rid of everything." :rotfl:0

My husband was folding the laundry the other day and joked that he didn't know whether to take mine upstairs, or just put it into the recycling bag....:rotfl:"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0 -
Ok does anyone have trouble with their 'spark joy' meter? I am relooking at clothes now its the turning seasons and decided none of it sparks joy
On a practical level MKing most of it isnt going to work..even my most lovely white lacy cardigan perfect for summer evenings today looks like a bed jacket:rotfl:
My drawers look lovely with every thing folded like bookends ..i think i will earmark the most likely to go and ask myself again in a few days...0 -
I'm enjoying the sunshine! It's gorgeous weather her, dds are at youth club ( a bit like Brownies, but mixed, lots of outdoor games, and not church related), and husband has left without saying where he went. He made some nasty remarks about me not having washed the dirty pans while cooking yesterday (the pans were from the meal before yesterday and were soaking). I don't mind the remark, but do mind the tone he used and that he did it in front of dds. So, I'm enjoying the calm of an empty house today.
One load of laundry is on the line, terrace has been swept, dds snacks for tomorrow are in their bags, I've helped them finish their homework, tonight's dinner is sorted, 3 hardy creeping geraniums are planted. Husband did a load of ironing and cleaned the bathroom before he left. Several of dds' items that were ironed are now too small for them, and are already in the attic

I've kondo'd most of my clothes now, and feel much happier about that, and thought I would try with the children - it was amazing! I sat with the 5 year old and just went through all her clothes, which were 90% handmedowns and just asked her 'does this make you feel happy?' which meant that we got rid of a few things for really good reasons - the zip is scratchy here, the buttons on the back of this catch my hair every time I wear it. And for me, the magic came not only from her being able to make a decision, but also for me being able to let her let go of clothes that were expensive, or a gift from my parents, because they really didn't spark joy for quite legitimate reasons! And we managed to Kondo two bags worth of clothes to the recycling and a whole load of dresses to aim to sell.
Then moved on to my nearly 9 year old daughter, same process. She is one who loves to shop and have new things, so I was a little worried that she would just say that nothing caused her happiness so she could get new stuff. But absolutely fair play to her, 95% of her current wardrobe sparked joy as she touched and re-rolled each item, and we managed to put some clothes that she loved to death in the recycling as well. Definitely the most stress-free wardrobe sort I've ever had with my girls
And then the bit that made me chuckle, DDalmost9 passed on a few things to DD5, which husband took into her room. 'Do you want these? Do they spark joy for you?' he says! "nope" says DD5, who has spent the last 24 hours repeatedly thanking DDalmost9 for her old clothes that we found in the loft that are now the right size for her to wear!
'Does it spark joy?' a magical, life changing question!0 -
Hugs Siebrie, I hope the peace helps X
I have managed to rehome a huge bag full of fabric squares to a friend who is a teacher, I did double check as I don't want to be passing things on and people feeling guilty and not able to say no, but she has plans for them already.
I finally found (in the loft!!!) one of the plastic compartmentalised boxes which I have been looking for to store the many half used bags of nails, clips etc that I found when moving mum. Part of her need to buy was because she never knew where anything was and kept buying more as she was sure she didn't have something. My plan is by using the kondo theory of all the same things in one place and knowing what we have, means I can use them up a bit over the next few months of house renovations.
I had a lovely day, because for the first time in such a long time I kondod my to do list and just enjoyed where the mood took us. We had a marvellous time at a food festival, read the paper in the sun and I pottered in my greenhouse. It definitely reduced my stress levels from trying to move house and work.
S X£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Kondo'd 4 hours at the races today. Really enjoyed it.
Also kondo'd about £25 in lost bets
On the other hand, DH won £84
And you know what they say - what's mine's my own and what's yours is mine :rotfl:
To top it all I got sunburnt. On the 24 Sept. In Uttoxeter! :TI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
My body said `rest`, so I did, all weekend, didn`t even go to my monthly wood craft group but I did get out in the fresh air and on a couple of cycle rides. I obviously needed a change, could feel myself becoming drained from too much intensive, heavy work via outdoor kondo. My sleeping pattern is back right on track, thanks to a red 15w bulb and yellow/amber overglasses. I start with the overglasses at 8pm. All about blue blocking. Red bulb is in my bedside lamp and is so good that I have ordered a 40w orange bulb for my snug, I`ll be able to read without my overglasses. I even watched Victoria in bed, wearing my overglasses and had the full 8 hours. Nuff on that
Now my energy is back, I will attempt to re-start kondo/sorting in my garage today, I will have to start by moving many bags of wood pellets, then will re-stack my carving gear from chrome shelves and in process will be able to dismantle another chrome shelving unit. The already empty post-kondo ` really useful boxes` will just be re-stacked on top of each other. This will give me two chrome shelving units (already dismantled one in the outbuilding) which can easily be moved to another house in my car. Its all about project management, a special order of doing things, not just random which can create more mess and disorder. I feel excited at that work today and my garage will soon be re-organised as a workshop and bike store. Nice to be doing that and I feel excited at having a good purpose to today0
