All is calm here, too :) Food shopping has been done (prep will be Xmas Eve) Presents are wrapped and under tree (only half the Father Christmas stocking presents are currently wrapped, but that's not a big job left) I still need to decorate the dining table (Xmas Eve job) and cut some fresh ivy for the mantel (it goes crispy otherwise, over the fire!) and fresh ivy and small holly bits to tie around the napkins (again, a Xmas Eve job as part of dressing the table) but it is peaceful. Some present swaps have already been done. 1 is happening later, another tomorrow and then the last (my mum) will be Xmas Day morning (here). Flowers have been laid on graves. I am almost wondering what I have forgotten!! :D

Loads of things still to be done here, ice cake, make mince pies and cheese scones, a few presents to wrap, family cards to write, decorations to be put up (traditionally Christmas Eve here), but I am completely calm, only OH and me and things will happen or not happen:D

    I love that :j

I do find some people don't get it, they think that a present should be something that's purely decorative, or at least isn't needed rather than wanted ... but that way lies madness, for me anyway!

I've just treated myself to a lovely Christmas present. A new kitchen bin, which is almost the same colour as my fairly recent kitchen door replacements. It sparks joy because it replaces an old shredder bin, which has been in various places in the kitchen but had no lid and it was hard to get things in, not around it. There was no room to tuck a small bin away, so this one is a feature. It has a lid which opens and closes with a touch and it will only need emptying once a week, as it is capacious. It was expensive but it is Christmas. As someone wrote on the manufacturer's website 'You know you are getting old when you get excited by a new bin.' :rotfl:
  • Hi, I am a newbie to the Kondo thread. I hope I am welcome.

It gets everywhere - I am just watching a recording of an American TV series & one of the characters has just mentioned “holding all your stuff and see what brings you joy” Talk about spooky but for once I understood an out of context reference. I have only Kondoed my underwear and the hanging part of my wardrobe. I am trying to psyche myself into doing the rest of the wardrobe but because everywhere is sooo cluttered I am finding it difficult to find a proper space!

Oh well, talking about it won’t get it done so tomorrow I will take the plunge! Any tips (I don’t have the book nor do I have a library card) would be gratefully appreciated.

I am not being a grinch but the only things my DH & I do re Christmas are send XMas cards and have an all the trimmings XMas dinner without the turkey but with a different meat each year - anything from goose to sausages! This year duck breasts and possibly pheasant breasts. Also a new way to cook Brussels sprouts - I can take them or leave them but my DH absolutely loves them.

He doesn’t know yet that I am trying out Kon Mari but he is decluttering and decorating at the same time. I Kondoed his underwear but he hasn’t commented as yet!

    Happy holidays to you all.

  • I came on here to say that I love the serenity that you have found for christmas. I did christmas for 44 years and was never serene but did not know about kondo in those days. Things change with time and it is important to go with the flow ie sink or swim, so I bend with the wind and will be hoping to embrace new things in the future, as we all try to do

2017 was busy and the hospice has benefitted greatly, so the gift aid letter tells me and that makes me feel good. 2018 will be treated differently in that I cannot see me doing much kondo but I will be using stashes, rather than buying anything. Mostly crafting stashes, sewing, knitting, spinning and wood carving. I hope I get a new house next year and I fully intend to use my stashes as an aid to get to know people eg I will happily teach people to spin. It will be a small area and over 50% over 50, people know people and the ones I have met to date are so friendly

Maybe the last kondo for me in 2017, will be to get rid of a lot of christmas and birthday stuff ie bags and wrapping. Another `final` load for the cs, it takes up a large drawer and I can empty that space, all that stuff is heavy too. I have a huge roll of the best quality wrapping from costco, last year, maybe I will just wrap that well in clingfilm and keep it, I will need it again and tbh I need to watch the spends in 2018. I had the years visa summary a week ago and was rather shocked at how much I spent, was too easy drawing from this and that savings account to pay visa and with council tax and electricity each going up by 6%, well the pit would be empty in a blink

2018 will be a year of change, for me and that will give me aspiration and hope and I hope that 2018 is good to all of you

Keep the wrapping paper Kittie -it will get used. My Mum picked up a seriously huge roll of florists cellophane at a bootfair around 10years ago, she paid £2, she used it for 3 years solid, everything was wrapped in this gorgeous gold cellophane - Dad then painstaikingly wound off meters and meters of the stuff before they passed the roll to me, I’ve used it for every gift (other than DDs Christmas stuff as I use a different colour paper for each DD to save on labels) - the roll is still around 8inches thick so still so much to use and I can see I’ll be passing it down to one of the DDs at some stage.

It’s not that sparks joy for me but it does give me joy to know I’m not having to pay for more wrapping to go in the bin....

And yes Mums smaller roll is still going too!

  • I just kondoed a bag of bird food to the birds in the park.:A

I have done quite well this year, although I have bought quite a few new items of clothing. I will review it in a couple of months to see if there is anything I don't wear. I might try the hanger trick when you put them all the wrong way round and only put it the right way if you have worn it.

I hope to kondo some more weight in 2018.;)

Hello and welcome to Mrs Salad Dodger.

All calm here. OH has just run round with the hoover and he's going out later for a swim so has said he'll pick up a cheap tree if there are any left. We'll put decs up together this evening.

Everything else is done and the only thing I have planned for today is a phone call to a friend abroad. Apart from that I shall potter and if anything else can be Kondoed on the way, so much the better.

Lol! My husband (very jokingly) suggested a new tumble drier for my Christmas present and I found myself rather disappointed when I realised he was joking!! :rotfl:
