KonMari 2017 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I did quite a bit of freezer kondo this morning, all veggies that I processed because I grew too much. I don`t love any of them frozen, green beans, processed courgettes, beetroots etc yes they would make life easier in that they are prepared eg sauteed or blanched but don`t make any meal that I thoroughly enjoy. I can be selective these days, now I am on my own, my appetite has shrunk to match my body size. They are all destined for my composting hotbin later today when defrosted, I shall have to make two trips from the car, such a lot but I now have the equivalent of a fully empty freezer drawer.
Later I will concentrate on using up the likes of frozen tomatoes, they are bulky and in a month or so, will be able to transfer the remaining contents of my small garage freezer to my tall kitchen freezer. I never thought I would get through that lot but am again preparing for moving. I want that small freezer empty and dried0 -

I have NEVER felt this calm before Christmas. I rather like it!
I'm in a similar place, Polly. Still a few bigger things to do but can't do them until other things have happened. Not stressing about it at all!
Lots of practical present giving going on here too, plus we're using up cards, wrapping paper, gift bags (never buy them but always re-use) and crackers which came from OH's family home when we cleared it back in the summer. Glad to see spaces re-appearing.
Also Kondoing other items as I come across them during the clear out of the office to fit the new bed in. Another load went to CS on Monday and I've started another bag. Of course the bed arrived at the weekend with a major part missing so I'm glad I ordered early - we're expecting delivery of it today.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Kittie - could you not offer the frozen veg on your local free cycle group or similar. Plenty of people would be very grateful I’m sure."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

I offered some red and also white currants to a freecycle group and someone who makes jams and jellies was delighted with them.
I had a Mk moment this morning. Have the huge container that holds my washing powder had a split down the side and was looking for a new tub. Was washing out a milk carton to recycle and washed dried and filled it instead. a little shake gets rid of any lumps and it also pours very easily.0 -
I only use hm compost and comfrey pooky, I have already re-cycled the limp-looking de-frosted veg into the hotbin, where it will feed the worms that thrive in there and their doings will turn it all into lovely black crumbly compost to feed next years veg, which will feed me and others
I treated myself this week, last year I bought myself a spinning wheel in kit form, to build over christmas and it spins like a dream. I have no decs up but yesterday bought a tiny live tree, with lights and about 20 miniature baubles, it is all of 40 cm high in soil in a hessian pot. It arrived today and is utterly gorgeous and worth every single penny. My present to myself this year is a package of cut flowers every 28 days for six months. I don`t know how they do it but they are the best flowers ever, my son sends me a package from them from time to time. They are in a flat box, amazing
No more km now, before christmas, just waiting for the longer days to come0 -
kittie, I've just ordered my mum some of the 'letterbox flowers' for her January birthday and a for 2 months after that. A friend has been getting them every month since May and hers have always been lovely, apart from once when the issue was quickly resolved.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0

I was finally able to have the time and space to tidy up my craft stash yesterday - some of mine, some of my mum's. Storage solutions aren't quite solved yet
but its on the way.
I also came across a letter from my local health authority "dealing with" a complaint I made. They redressed the financial complaint, but they made an absolute pig's ear of the rest of it, and also boasted about how this was the last letter they'd write. I kept it because I was so unhappy about the outcome .... prime territory for km!
So I burned it, in the sink :j
That meant I put the ashes, and the used matchstick, onto the garden to decompose. And then I cleaned every portion of the sink :j

Christmas prep has been really chilled here too.
All presents were done online. Lunch is arriving tomorrow (I get the frozen Christmas lunch from C00K as it is delish, v easy and we're at church for midnight mass and Christmas morning).
My lovely husband is due back soon, bringing my Mother to stay, my kids are behaving themselves and there is mulled wine in the cupboard. That all sparks so much joy that I don't have headroom to think about whatever I am supposed to be stressing about, over in commercial Christmas world.
The letterbox flowers sound wonderful. I hope you enjoy them every day!"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0 -
I’m not trying to sound smug to those who are rushing around like the proverbial fly, in fact they’re probably too busy to read the thread. I’ve been trying to work out why I’m so much calmer than usual.
Three things: firstly I knew where everything was, no hunting for presents I bought earlier in the year or having to rush out to buy extra cards. Secondly the bullet journal, and I think that has made the biggest difference. I write things down as I think of them, and then I can refer back because the list isn’t on a bit of scrap paper in the bottom of my bag. I’m so much more organised with this system.
The third thing - weirdly, I’ve stopped self-sabotaging. I have a history of setting myself unrealistic goals and adding in extra (probably unnecessary) tasks, and then rushing to get everything done. For example, I’d invite people for lunch and then decide to make home-made bread, not one of my skills, instead of buying it. I just don’t seem to feel the need to do this any more - strange but good! Thank you, Marie Kondo.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Pollywollydoodle I know exactly what you mean. I feel calm and organised which is not like me. Got 9 for Boxing day lunch they want roast turkey and all the trimmings etc and a vegetarian ( isn't their always ). I don't have enough chairs so have borrowed 2 from the local church hall - that was easy sorted. Got a present from someone today I have never had a gift from before so instead of hitting he shops I will do a little flower arrangement in January and visit with that in January.
I feel calm maybe calm before the storm but with KM and flylady ( the American one) I am very organised. I evn know where all my dishes are for the meal I just need to remember to wash the knives from the main course for the cheese course :rotfl:as I km my cutlery ages ago.0
