Slinky,and Floss, do you live in newish houses? I ask as I had problems, with rain coming into the cavity and then out of weep holes above the door and window, which was fine before we had the conservatory built. Then of course it was coming into the conservatory! !
Recently we had a roof put on the Conservatory and the walls plastered so we filled the weep holes, but it still managed to come through!!
The builder painted the whole of the back wall with a sealant, the brick is very porous, and hope that will do it!! Next door had special troughs put in the brick which the rain runs into , just above the roof of their conservatory, though this is quite a big job!! It involves taking a brick out and putting the trough in before replacing the brick.

Floss

Wort our home is a pre-war 1930's terrace with very narrow cavities.

I bought some new underwear and socks for both of us so the old ones can go to the clothes recycling along with a few other bits and a pair of very uncomfortable brown boots.

I used up a few toiletries this week too, a foundation, a conditioner and a pot of face cream. I've had the face cream about two years as I only use it around my eyes.

I think i have finally fledged into the KM way.:j
I spied a mushroom punnet of field mushrooms in my fridge ...couldnt wait to use them up..punnett perfect for my folded knicks:rotfl: DH completely bemused.
Tried to sort minor piece of paperwork for house..ended up clearing most of the file:j
Sorted out a few boxes in spare room...trolley of books and CS bag of clothes to donate..lots more to do but a start:j

Wort & Floss, house is 1960s. It's definitely coming in along the bottom of the door. Checked by pouring water out of a watering can along the door on the outside and in it comes.


First quote is coming in at £1345. This includes a panel on one side that will have a fan light plus a upvc panel at the bottom we can fit a cat flap into. Would have been £980 for just patio doors (expensive cat, we'll stop her pocket money!). Hey ho, we were thinking about having a hole knocked in the wall to fit a cat flap in when we move here. This is probably cheaper/less disruptive/easier to change if we no longer have a cat in the future as we can get a new upvc panel put back in.

I've got 2 mushroom punnets in the kitchen waiting for me to find something to put into them....... Don't think it's supposed to work like that!

Slinky - has anyone checked the sealant round the door? I only ask as I had water pouring down the inside of my kitchen window some years ago - DH discovered the mastic stuff they use to seal the frame to the brickwork has shrunk away in places and when the wind blew in a certain direction the rain came in - may be a cheaper option ?

Age concern this morning - one of my ladies wants to know how to download photos from her camera to her laptop but had forgotten the cable so I've come home and sorted a card reader for next week as it'll be simpler if she doesn't remember again! Took the opportunity to sort out the cables into labeled toilet rolls and found a cable that will fit my kindle (it was given to me without one) found two that I don'y know what their for but I'm sure something will surface if I bin them so they've been tucked at the back

Sadly the door is nearly 30 years old, and aluminium with seals bedded into the aluminium of a type they can't get anymore. I think we're going to have to bite the bullet and replace it.
