Brain fail 😆
Thank you lovely peeps for your support. To be honest, I was expecting him to leave the place dusty - just wasn't prepared for things to be quite so revolting. I will have a conversation with him about it as I'm sure he knows full well what he's done. However, he's got away with it hasn't he. There are no consequences for his behaviour. Although he's due to come to us for Christmas 🤔
I've had a brain fail this week as young decorator turned up yesterday 😲 I'd mis-read the start date. Fortunately he texted me late on Monday so I had a very early start yesterday clearing so that he could start work. My plan for cooking up everything we needed ahead of time went awry and I ended up popping into M&$ to pick up some ready meals so that we didn't have to use the kitchen too much this week. The good news is that he should be finished by the end of the week so I'll have the weekend to put the kitchen back together and to clear the living room so that he can start in there.
I did manage to work around him to cook up some Chunky Bean & Cabbage Soup which will do us for lunch for a few days.
I didn't get to do any work in the annex yesterday as I had a hair appointment and took the opportunity to get some Bay parcels and a birthday present posted. Then there was a WI Committee meeting in the evening. But I shall have to face it today 🤮 There's a Book Club meeting this evening which is being hosted by someone else in the group but I have, somehow, ended up giving everybody a lift. So time is a bit tight again today. Everyone is good at sharing the load though so that will be 4 lifts I've 'banked' for future events.
Off to have a look at the kitchen wall colour which is just going up - exciting!

I would get professionals in and send him the bill. Like an estate agent clean. That's ridiculous!

Yellow!
The kitchen is finished... almost. I'd chosen a very bright, citrus, yellow for the walls and it looks as though the paint was dodgy. It was an expensive one too. The walls look ok now but it took 3 coats to get them anywhere near that and young decorator will still need to touch up in places. The pigments in the paint just kept separating out I've been on to the manufacturer and will wait to hear what they have to say. I do love the colour though - it's like having your very own source of sunshine. I hadn't intended to paint the whole house yellow but it's going that way. We chose a lemon yellow for the dining room last year and the living room is going to be a mustard yellow. The hall and landing are going to be a citrus green - so a green with a yellow tone 😁 I suspect our bedroom and one of the guest rooms will be yellow too 🤭 The house will be very cheerful by the time we've finished.
Other than cleaning and putting the kitchen back together, I've done very little by way of chores this week. And I haven't gone back into the annex yet either 🤭 I did speak to Uncle F about it though. He apologised but didn't really accept that he'd left it in a state and didn't offer to pay for a cleaner 😡 I know he knows what he's done as there was a legal matter he wanted my help with and, rather than ask, he's started the process himself. I suspect he didn't think I'd help in the circumstances.. and he'd be right. Welcome well and truly worn out.
Despite the extra painting, the kitchen bill came in less than budgeted 😁 I'd asked Young Decorater to quote 'worst case scenario' so hopefully the other rooms will come in under as well.
Hope you're all having a great weekend.

Ooh, all that sunshiney yellow sounds marvellous Fortune! We painted our hall 'Happy Yellow' a couple of years ago, and while we never got round to the paintwork, the walls themselves are indeed most cheerful. We've also bought a retro yellow tester pot for the kitchen, and retro orange (I think) for the bedroom. Might be cold outside but we will be basking in a warm glow inside!
Glad you had a word with Uncle F - does indeed seem like he's got the message.4 -

There's a lot of natural wood in our house @Cheery_Daff so I think the walls can take a lot of colour. Plus it's so cheering in the winter. Your decorating plans sound fabulous. Don't know how you've coped without a kitchen for so long - I've only been without mine for a week and that was bad enough 😅
