Baby Steps
Another day, another baby step forward. I am sleeping better, coughing less and managed to get a few chores done yesterday. I'm able to cook properly now and feel much better for a fresh diet. We used up a lot of our freezer supplies whilst I was ill so those will need replacing. I keep the freezer stocked with home cooked food just in case I'm poorly or for when I'm out and about and need to leave something quick and easy for Mr F to eat.
We had leftover Chilli for lunch with rice, quacamole and sour cream. Supper was tuna cheese baguette melts with added cherry tomatoes, red onion, sweetcorn and red pepper.
I did the on-line grocery shop which came in a little over budget largely because I bought some convenience foods for the F-men to have whilst I am away at the weekend.
Today I'm going to give the kitchen a spring cleam. It's well overdue but I shall have to take it slowly.
Oh the glamour of my life! 😆

Ups and Downs
It's been a challenging week. I managed to get to the wedding and it was lovely to see family, however, it was a big expense and a lot of time on the road. I decided to leave the hotel at 5.30 am on Bank Holiday Monday to beat the traffic and I'm glad I did as I got home at 9.00 am with no hold ups at all. The wedding was beautiful but a bit disjointed because of Covid restrictions. I attended the ceremony and the reception but not the wedding breakfast. However, many friends and family didn't get to attend any part so I'm very grateful and honoured that I had a precious space for some of it. The (very high-end) hotel was appalling 😲 with far too many issues to mention here. I complained and have had two conversations with two different managers since (apparently there is no one who can deal with the full complaint as reservations, accommodation and dining are all handled by different people 🙄). I have had some money refunded on my stay and was offered a complementary meal for two in the restaurant by way of compensation. As I'm over 200 miles away from the hotel I've asked them to give the complementary meal to the bride and groom.
Whilst away I found out that a very dear friend had died. She had been poorly but was on the mend so it was unexpected.
Fortunately I arranged for Uncle F to receive some professional help before I left as I don't have the emotional resources to support him right now. Mr F is also preoccupied as he has a worrying health issue. Uncle F is saying he feels more positive already so I'm grateful for that.
I've been very productive this week getting on top of chores and spending time in the garden. The bad weather and my ill health meant I couldn't keep on top of the weeds for a while and it's like a jungle out there now. I've weeded two veg beds and should be able to do another two before the weekend. Mr F and I are planning to spend as much time as possible out there Saturday and Sunday and reckon we should be able to get on top of most of the veg patch. We are too late now to plant onions so I'm going to try leeks and bulb fennel for the first time instead.
I've also started exercising again and have walked for a hour every morning this week on top of the gardening.
MS-wise I've done the end of the month money shuffle and reconciled all the accounts. We are at 79% of target with the emergency fund although this may fluctuate wildly this year as urgent repairs are still needed to our gates and fencing. I've allocated the balance of the window money separately. We have paid off 32% of the mortgage and can reach 56% with the OP savings we have. We had another £25 premium bond win this month so that's £50 this year 😁
I've dedicated the Quince tree in the orchard to my friend so I'll have somewhere to sit and remember her.
Take care everyone
