Glad there is progress, hang in there and makes good sense to get the patio done too now.

I've just added repointing/ relaying the patio to the jobs list. Hope yours goes well.

It has made such a difference Karma - we hadn't realised just how shabby the patio was.

The worst is over now Teapot. I'm usually a really calm person but the noise and disruption just leave me with low grade stress the whole time :o

and washed away all the dust and disruption of the last few days :D

The builders came this morning to give the drive a final roll and take away all the big equipment. They worked in the rain to get it finished bless them. The patio is about 3/4's done but they couldn't do any further pointing in this weather. They'll be coming back on Monday to finish that.

There has been a little blip - the builder thought he'd quoted me a price £500 more than the one I thought he'd quoted me  We agreed everything verbally a few months ago so I really should have checked with him again before he started the work. He did agree to go with the original quote but they've done a great job and it's taken at least a day more than he'd first thought. Mr F and I had a chat and said we'd rather pay him the right price for the work than have him leave out of pocket and with a bad taste in his mouth. Particularly as we want him to do some more work for us in the future. I told him this morning and he said he'd do something on the patio price for us to bring the total cost down a bit :) I'll find the extra money from the emergency fund.

It's all looking really good out there now and the rain showers, although torrential, were needed to freshen everything up. My window cleaner even came out and worked between the showers as he knew we had guests arriving tomorrow. We just need to move garden furniture and plant pots back and it'll be as though the chaos never happened. We still need to get the rest of the patio sorted but that's less disruptive and a job for next year. We need time to take stock and replenish the coffers now.

I've spent all day in the Annex getting it ready for our guests' arrival tomorrow. Just need to run the vacuum round in the morning and it's all set. We don't have anyone booked for next weekend and I'm sort of hoping it stays that way. I need to get on top of chores in the house and I've got a few social things in the diary I'd really like to go to.

Mr F got home earlier than expected today so he's out giving FDawg a run before the heavens open again. A nice dinner and a glass of wine is planned for this evening - we're not going out tonight without a canoe :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Happy Friday all.

The quoting for my kitchen got messed up - he underquoted by £1000, and would only bring it down by £200, but the kitchen designer was so embarrassed he cut the price of the kitchen units by £500. It was all sorted by the time the work started, so none of it was a horrible surprise for me, it was just really impressive that the designer would go to bat for me like that.

Have a lovely evening! It's pretty soggy here, and not all that warm either, I may fetch something alcoholic myself :)

I think most people will do the right thing in these situations Karma. My builder had done two smaller jobs for me before we took him on to do the drive. Both involved a couple of little extra bits on the day and he didn't charge me anything more for doing them. I think he's a decent guy and he would have stood by the quote but I know he'd have paid his lads and not made any money himself.

It has been a far more peaceful day today :)

I vacuumed the Annex this morning ready for today's guests. They are here and seem like a nice couple.

Mr F has gone off to an old colleague's birthday bash. He'll be away over night and back tomorrow morning.

I picked more raspberries today (yes they are still going) ready to bake with. Plus our first broad beans which I'm intending to go in a salad for lunch tomorrow.

This afternoon was spent painting in blissful silence :) I have a meeting with the WI Show Team on Monday and they are expecting me to bring the painting I promised them with me. It isn't finished yet  I made good progress today though and I should be able to finish tomorrow.

Hope you're weekend is going well.

FDawg did not sleep through last night :( Our guests are night owls and were up after I went to bed. I couldn't hear them but of course he could. Then he needed to get up for a wee. And then he needed to poop. And then he just needed to see whether he could get me out of bed again  Of course he needed to warn me about the jackdaws this morning too... three times  It's definitely going to be an early night for me tonight.

I finished the WI painting :T It's not my favourite but I've done my best with it. Let's hope the judges like it on the day.

Mr F was home for lunch - we had poached salmon salad made with lettuce, new potatoes and broad beans from the garden :) Supper was fish and chips from the freezer as Mr F said he wasn't hungry but was suddenly ravenous fifteen minutes later so I had to rustle up something quickly. I baked Raspberry Financiers so we had a couple each with extra raspberries and cream for pudding :D I left the basil out though as I didn't like the sound of it :rotfl:

I don't know what's happened to the promised heatwave - it's been distinctly chilly here in the Shire. Dry and windy though so I managed to get a couple of loads of washing dry on the line.

My hopes for a quieter week ahead have come to naught - we have just got a booking for the weekend. I'm not complaining, it's for three days and will help to replenish our seriously depleted emergency fund. No rest for the wicked :rotfl:

Hope everyone's had a great weekend.
