Tales from The Shire

I really enjoy your updates from the Shire, so thank you. I would have been really frustrated re the car saga, but at least it was a complete waste of a day.0

Nothing much to report. I spent the whole day yesterday ironing. The whole day! And I only got through half the ironing pile
We had cream cheese, salmon and caper bagels for lunch and the leftover Halloumi Traybake for supper. So at least there was minimal cooking to do.
It's raining here which is great as I won't need to water the hundreds of pots at my neighbours laterHopefully it will clear up this afternoon though as I had plans to weed the flower beds today and pick currants for making stuff... although not sure what yet :rotfl:
Might let Mr F walk FDawg this morning while I go back to bed and catch up some Zzzzzs. FDawg has regressed and is trying to get us up in the night now as well as too early in the morning
Yaaaaaawn

Thank you Busy Mee. A day out with a friend is never a waste of time

Just had the first thundery shower here. I don't think it's going to be the last.
I've just finished turning over the Annex for our guests arriving tomorrow. There's a couple of food items I'll need to take over in the morning when the shopping arrives though. A couple are staying who are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversaryI've set the dining room table for them with champagne flutes, heart shaped confetti and red serviettes folded into roses :heart2: All items I had already. I've also left some jars of sweet peas (courtesy of my neighbours' garden) and a bottle of prossecco (courtesy of Mr F's Avi0$ points). The only extra cost of hosting them is 29p for a card I picked up in a shop closing sale
I hope they get a little sunshine during their stay - if only I could control the weather :rotfl:
I collected in most of the blackcurrants yesterday and have frozen about half of them. I'll freeze the other half today. The redcurrants could do with a couple of days more to ripen fully so I've left them and am hoping they survive the storms. I also dug up the remaining new potatoes.
The builders arrived this morning to repair the drain. It involved some concreting so I'm keeping my fingers crossed the repair will survive today's rain. I'd noticed that some of the pointing on the patio is crumbling. I think the small area which got rained on when they were doing the work. They wanted to repair that today too but I said no as they'd only have to come back and re-do it a third time if we got the rain that's been forecast. Turns out that was a good call
Gate man has been in contact with apologies and suggesting Thursday for installation. Neither Mr F nor I are here on Thursday so I've countered with Friday.
Meals have been largely salad based as we still have lots of lettuce, new potatoes and broad beans in the veg garden
This afternoon may be dedicated to FDawg's training. He is frightened of thunder so I am feeding him doggie chocolate drops each time we hear a rumble. He is currently asleep at my feet - not sure whether that's because he's frightened or because he doesn't want to miss out :rotfl:
Hope everyone stays dry today.

What a lovely gesture for your guests. Just shows that thoughtful gestures don’t have to cost much. I bet they would never guess it only cost you 29p !0

Thanks guys. I always try to leave a few little surprises for my guests. From the feedback I've had, it seems to be the thing they most appreciate. I left an Easter Egg hunt for my first guests and they loved it.
