  • Yes we are FUDS, but I find because we're eating less volume my digestive tract seems to have slowed down (more information than strictly necessary) and the only way that seems to work to speed things up is a daily dose of sweetcorn! I'm running between 65 and 66 kilos and He Who Knows who is 6' 2" is running between 82 and 83 kilos. We hop on the bathroom scales every morning after using the loo and as nature intended us and adjust up what we consume in the day according to which end of the scale we're at. It's been steady since the summer.

Have you tried a little milled flax seed Lyn? I've been putting a spoonful in my smoothies. It helps  Did you enjoy your lunch? :D

Elona I'll take my tone deafness as a blessing then. Bless you.

I have to thank you all for mentioning eucalyptus oil to me. It's ignited a fascination in learning about essential oils. I have 'had a day off' today, put my feet up and researched the science behind many oils. I now have a complex wish list. I'm walking down the hill (getting the bus back as I tried and I resembled a slug) so today I dotted a little eucalyptus in my scarf. It lasted all the way down. My chin was up and down like an Olympic swimmer doing the butterfly! :D
  • Thanks Fuds, I'll give it a go! xxx.

Fuds, I few weeks ago I managed to buy a small humidifier/diffuser (with an am azon voucher) it’s not a burner as it doesn’t get hot but creates a little stream of humid air to which you can add oils. I had eucalyptus going during a cold and sinus infection - set as I went to bed and it kept going for 12 hours before turning itself off. (It has lights too that can cycle through various colours or pulse on and off to breathe too which is very relaxing). I’ve now got a lavender and bergamot mix going on at night and it’s amazing. I’m asleep within minutes and the bedroom smells fresh and clean and crisp.

I’ll add to my oils collection when I can afford to but have been really impressed with the destressing properties.

(Said humidifier was £17 so not too pricey compared to some others and safe to use around our moggies as no hot liquid or candles)

Fuddle I have a collection of aromatherapy oils in a custom made case given to me as a birthday present several years ago. I use oils for all sorts of things but there are three oils I keep in the bathroom cabinet. Eucalyptus, for use in colds and congested noses, Lavender, which is relaxing and helps promote sleep, and Tea Tree, which is a natural antiseptic - use it wherever you would use Dettol or TCP, but it smells much nicer. Look into aromatherapy oils, you will be surprised at all the uses they have.

  • Evening all.

Playing catch up now as I have some of my chores done. I now have my 2 Christmas cakes iced so they will be ready to go to their new homes anytime after tomorrow. I also have made some ice cream for Christmas Day dessert (making a trio of ice creams to serve alongside my mulled wine sorbet) so I'm getting there. Hubby laughs at me because I have a checklist which I keep scoring things out and adding more to but it's how I manage things best.

Fuddle - I love olives and any kind of cheese. My mouth was watering thinking about your meal. There is a new Mediterranean restaurant in Glasgow city centre which looks nice. Hopefully I'll find time to go sometime in the New Year.

I'm supposed to be finished work today but I suspect I will need to do some tomorrow/Friday so I'm off to bed now and will make an early start tomorrow morning - hopefully before most of my colleagues are up and about. That way I should have fewer phone calls and distractions and perhaps let me get finished by about 10. At least I can work from home so no travelling required.

SM MiL was telling me t'other day about a fantastic Greek restaurant she had been to in Glasgow. I wonder if it's the same one? She visited when The Who were playing up there. Anyway, she was very excited about the food. DH said that he had the best Chinese he'd ever eaten in Glasgow, when on his conference. Glasgow appears to rock in the food stakes. :D

Well I've certainly been missing a trick with aromatherapy, that's for sure. Again, something I will continue to learn about and take with me through life. Worth your weight, every one of you :D

Pooky, it's lovely to see you popping on the threads every now and then. :)

  • Good evening friends. I'm popping in to wish everyone a very Merry and enjoyable Christmas however you are spending it. I suspect it will be manically busy for us all over the next 36 hours so thought it better to post now.

Fuddle - you are quite right. Glasgow has become an amazing place for restaurants. It still amazes me but I'm not complaining. It's great to have such choice and it keeps people in jobs so I'm happy.

I'm having a quick cuppa, watching "The Polar Express" with one eye and then about to start the housework so everything is pristine for tomorrow morning. I'm off to the gym for two classes then will be home to make my mince pies and cook the turkey for Monday. I am useless at carving a warm turkey so always cook it the day before (and will no doubt be making turkey soup at 6am on Monday!).

My mother asked me to make a selection of homemade ice creams, sorbets and sauces for dessert this year. I suspect she thought that would be less time consuming than a proper pudding but it sure isn't. They are all done though - mulled wine, strawberry and mango sorbets and rum and raisin, bourbon laced breakfast ice cream and blackberry and custard flavoured ice creams all in the freezer. Just butterscotch and chocolate sauces to make tomorrow.

Dinner will be pretty relaxed.Just my parents, hubby and me and father is in the midst of calving around 30 cattle at the moment so we may need to be flexible on the exact time of dinner. Mum reckons there has been a Christmas Day calf every year since 1997- I think we would be disappointed if there wasn't a new arrival:) We aren't in a hurry to repeat the year when two sets of twins arrived on Christmas Day and needed an emergency vets visit - that was just a bit more drama than we like!

I spent ages last night cleaning grannie's silver cutlery so it looks amazing and will be out for dinner. My grandmother was one of these women who kept things "for best use only" so when I inherited them I vowed to use them all. Makes me feel she is still part of our celebrations.

I may be back tomorrow, if my meticulous planning all falls into place. On the other hand I may be pink faced and frantic, who knows?!:rotfl::rotfl:
