Glad your water's back on csarina.

We keep a few big bottles of water in so that in emergency at least we have some to drink and to cook with. This is ever since GreyQueen posted about her friend, who works for the local water company and warned her that if a pump fails there you are with no water and no time for the water company to warn anyone.

ETA forgot to say CRANKY Thank you for explaining how the multi-quote thing works. I'd never been able to get it to work!

You can have these budgies for the freezer mar, although I don't think there would be much eating on them. They are driving me mad and this is only day 2 of a 15 night stay!

Sorry you are all having trouble sleeping due to the heat, nothing like that here although it has stopped raining at the moment. I'm sure it will start again when I'm ready to put the washing out.

....and then I started reading today's Guardian newspaper on line and thought "Nah...no...don't be daft...you were no-one's definition realistically of....don't be daft" and remembered a couple of times when, as far as I could see, I was the "best person for the job" for a promotion and didnt even get an interview - and just wondering/want to set my mind at rest. One person who got a promotion I was after was "better than me" (so fair 'nuff - if not liked) - but the others werent...

Does anyone have a link for the "archives" mentioned here. Just checking for peace of mind and then I can go back to sleep and think "Nah...they were fair in that respect"....

    It's

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jul/24/subversive-civil-servants-secretly-blacklisted-under-thatcher

Most people, if they didn't get a promotion when believed they "were the best person for the job" would (a) assume that actually they weren't and that someone else was and/or (b) actually have some pretty unwanted views or behaviours that were not acceptable to those in charge. After reading that article I think I now know.

    Welcome Onebrokelady

I find it interesting reading about your spiritual beliefs. I don't have any. I believe we have to try to get through life with the least pain possible and that's it.
As a child I went to church, think that was either my parents sending me or the thought of the summer outing and a Christmas party, big events in those days, but when my daughter died and the Vicar said it was God's will, I decided it wasn't for me.
Don't get me wrong, if it gives comfort, hope, understanding I'm happy for you.

I suppose it is too much to hope that you punched that vicar on the nose. And drew blood. If ever there a person in the wrong job he gets the medal.
I am not enamoured with church either but I do have a very close and relaxed relationship with God. We have many a giggle together and I'm not above yelling at Him if I feel the occasion demands it.
When I talk with an atheist who tells me all about the God they don't believe in, I find that I don't believe in that God either.

Was dreading being unable to sleep because of the heat having been awake from 12.30 to sometime round about 4 the night before but I must have been tired enough to (mostly) sleep quite well. I did see the clock a few times but it wasn't one of those nights where you see all the patterns in the numbers. Eg 12.34, 1.11, 1.23, 3.21 etc. 2.52 looks quite pretty on a digital clock, like a Greek key pattern, as does 5.25 and there have been nights when I've seen both those particular ones

I love finding those patterns too, maryb. I am fortunate enough to go a step further as I have a clock that also shows the date, the day and the temperature. Endless fun.
Well that was the night from hell, it was too hot to sleep and we had no water, there was a burst and the water co. switched off all the water to the village, apparently the next village to us had non either.

Our friends brought down 2 x 5 gallon tanks of water for us, which was very kind of them. I was up in the night, tried the tap and water came out, this morning at 7.50am a phone call from the water co. to say the situation was taking longer to resolve so they were delivering water to every house in the village. So thats what a white van was doing in the close at heaven knows what hour!!

The water is still on, so we had a quick shower.....its another blistering day!!

It only needs to be without an essential of life for a short while to make us really, really appreciative of all those things we take for granted. My blood runs cold at the thought of a waterless tap. I hope you manage to hang on to your water for long enough to get stocked up.
It makes all those advertisements showing small African children walking for miles to fetch a bucket full of dubious looking water a bit more poignant, doesn't it?

I've been busy at work, so haven't been here as I might normally be and you lot are all up for once, when you should have been safely snuggled under a warm blanket... oh wait, that's me not you, being as it's winter here.

I apologise for that being the extent of my post, because I'm completely knackered and am just snoozing here!

Thank you for sharing your spiritual meanderings and thank you for those who don't aline themselves that way for being accepting.

I have tried to 'be Christian'after Mam died. I went to memorial services, I even went to Durham Cathedral at one point. I just felt I was forcing something that just wasn't there. There' s probably two reasons for my supposed blockage:

1)the vicar wanted me to walk around the church at my Dad's funeral with the collections plate. Even at 10 year old I deduced it was for the churches benefit and not my own. That has stayed with me and just won't go away

2)as a decent human being I 'am Christian' as best I can be with all my flaws. I don't get any extra by labelling myself and forcing something that my being just doesn't want to let it.

I think I've learned that if anything, I am Pagan in terms of my religion, I'm drawn to the land, the seasons, weather, green and can find happiness visually with the landscape in many different places. Eventually I'd like to garden by the moon, my instinct and let's not forget my need to heal myself with herbs.

I guess it's all individual and while I can't understand how faith in God can be so strong I realise that others can't understand faith in, well the earth and nature. Aren't humans fascinating.

My grandma (Dad's Mam) my aunt and my cousin who came over from Australia for the Christening at the weekend are heavily Christian. The are also heavily spiritual. It is from them where I learned to dabble in the Angel cards and I have to say I was blown away yesterday when I shared with my Aunt that I was beginning my own spiritual journey and interested in healing via crystals. My aunt sent me a picture. She has my Grandma's healing crystals and stones and wants me to have them. In the box was a little poem about Guardian Angels. You know I believe that my guardian angel is there and it was just the biggest sign I could ever wish for and one that evoked a lot of emotion in me. Being in church, reading bible stories just never could evoke anything within me.

We just have to follow what is right for us.

Now, I wonder how the country as a whole is coping with a workforce that are as sleep deprived as us! I mean this heat could bring customer services to it's knees with cantankerous tired folk. :D

Youngest DD and I have completed the plot jobs this morning. Courgette cake with a cream cheese topping is on the menu today and macaroni cheese for tea - spelt pasta for me (at thrice the price :()

Have a good day chore eradicating everyone. :)

    Morning all,

Sorry to hear about the disturbed sleep last night! I slept well after yoga but I did wake up very early.

Silva, good luck today. Hopefully you'll get what you need.

I've watered the pots this morning and started some dusting. I managed to finish the charity shop sorting and did a deep clean of one room upstairs as well as the sheets yesterday. Just the bedroom and bathroom left. The shower curtain is currently in the washing machine.

OH made a new recipe last night, a courgette and white bean chilli with brown rice. It was nice, although I think we may need to add in more beans as we were both hungry at bedtime. Tonight I think I'll do a chicken sausage tray bake with spuds and other veg.

I have to be in MCR later today so I'd better get back to the chores for a bit.x

You all had a busy night. I was awake until about 2 ish, but didnt try to come here because there's usually no one around except softstuff and I can't bore her every night.

Welcome Onebrokelady. Listen very carefully to what Polly says about your chooks and Mar. Fort Knox? Pshaw! (I've always wanted to write that and now Ive done it several times as Tablet wasn't happy) We love chooks. As soon as we hear about them we start thinking fondly of straw, and eggs, and giving them amusing names, and building a roost so that they can watch telly through the window..............and Mar will be making bread sauce and shuffling things around in the freezer to make a space between the leftover bits of heffalump and camel burgers. We love her dearly but wouldn't trust her within a thousand miles of anything with four legs or wings. I keep my Dragon chained to me, having both four legs AND wings, but as she has a nasty habit of eating my posts she would give Mar the horriblest indigestion so justice would be served.

Morning all. I once had a student staying with me who was on my wave length and we conversed in newspaper headlines. Given a spell of hot weather like this we would race to be the first to say "PHEW, what a scorcher!"

    Weather report over.

Today housework will be done on a spirit-moves basis. I will tell you later what, if anything, the spirit has moved me to do.
    Just now I need COFFEE.

    THOÙGHT FOR TODAY

Any day above ground is a good one.
Don't worry I will keep an eye out for invaders, one of them was making a right racket just now,she sounded like she was being murderd but no she was just standing in the middle of the garden shrieking dramatically, probably broke a nail or something
    Welcome onebrokelady.
I didn't sleep well last night, I often don't on a Sunday night, I think I'm worried about the alarm not going off.
I was anticipating a better night tonight but somebody had other plans, I received an hysterical phone call from a terrified family member and had to phone 999.
The police arrived quickly and seem to have resolved the situation.
    Sleep is now hours away!!!
Oh dear I hope your family member is ok this morning,I never sleep well so get quite irate when I'm actually tired and something is keeping me awake, luckily I'm on holiday this week so it doesn't matter so much
