Pollyanna, I would quite like to run a B&B but have friends who have just given up running their lovely B&B because of all the petty rules and regulations. I can't quite remember which straw it was that broke the camel's back but it was quite ridiculous.
No. I will delight in having friends to stay, lots of them I hope, that's why I'm insisting on having at least 2 bedrooms. Three would be perfect but I mustn't be greedy.
nursemaggie. I just don't know how you keep going. What with your health problems and your dire housing situation you have every excuse for having a good moan and giving up the struggle. The fact that you keep battling on shows just how determined you must be. You are one brave lady.
I have spent today getting stuck into a book I am editing. The poor author has been very patient but I would like to get it off my conscience as soon as possible.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Now then Monna I am not sure you realise what you have let yourself in for
Since insisting I come and visitI have spent my non sleeping/early hours of the morning wisely and been researching..
I now know the size of your Isle, its approximate population and have viewed photos of all it has to offer. I've even researched Ferry prices and timetables
So be afraid..once I set my mind to going somewhere I invariably do so and if you suddenly stop posting and run for the hills aboard a large heffalump, be assured I will find you
I look forward to [STRIKE] an Uncle Donald's Happy Meal[/STRIKE] scrambled egg on toast Chez Monna on the beautiful Isle you are fortunate enough to call home...:)
Now hurry up and sell your house and buy that Bungalowxx

NM Your post has clarified something for me from when you first started talking of house hunting . I don't know if you recall my thinking you were waiting until DS was through his trial period . The issues about references were what was in my mind back then as he'd only just started the job .
Both your present and previous landlords should be willing to give references for rent payment etc . All I can suggest is maybe to look for a short term let near the job , perhaps a flat in decent order until your son has built up his own history .
I know you have a strong faith but not sure if you are a regular church goer . Monna could back me up on the fact that church communities know a lot of people and can often make things happen when all else fails . I believe with your health issues there has to be some help and support out there to help you find better housing . I understand what Mar says about positivity but sometimes you can be to too worn down to find that posiive feeling .
The local council are probably a no go as the streets of GM and most parts of the uk are overwhelmed with rough sleepers sadly .
Meanwhile has there been any progress with the heating being installed in your present flat ? I hope there has as another cold spell with those storage heaters wont do your health any good at all .
By the way is Plodder Lane the one in Farnworth? It's been driving me nuts since you mentioned it and it was only last Friday I remembered we used to drive down there when my sister lived near Bromley Cross and we visited friends in FW .
Take care

Oh and get well soon Islandmaid .It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Monna It would have to be an undercover MSE B&B . Admission via the rolling pin in the oilcloth bag only . A lot of us are preppers and have our tin foil hats and a talent for looking like a normal person when needed . No need for rules and regulations we'll take the risk H&S wise .

I don't have to research the isle if Wight. I have seen thousands of photos. My aunt and uncle Went every year for about 30 years. I would love to visit. I have always wanted to go there.
We did have a bed and breakfast on another island, the Isle of Anglesey.
It was hard work, people stole your profits by taking the towels. You can never go out together because someone has always got to be in to take bookings. The season is too short. We did get a big variety of different visitors from all over the world. Most of them only stayed a couple of nights.
We got visitors day and night. We regularly had people turn up at 10 pm.
One night I heard the doorbell at 1.30am. A couple with a baby and a toddler. We were fully booked but I changed my bed, got a mattress for the toddler, our only cot was already in use, It was too late to borrow from anyone else, luckily they had a travel cot so the baby slept in that. I just got in with DD. I think they were very grateful to have my room.
I think some of that you can't get away with now.0 -
Yes it is Plodder Lane Farnworth. I had a house come in tonight a 3 bed semi opposite the end of Plodder Lane. If that is any good he could walk to work in about 10 minutes. Not so good for shops there but plenty of buses in the area so choice of where to go. There are fields at the back. Nice!0

Polly, you don't know what you are saying. Of course I count all the mse-ers as friends and I will be expecting a constant stream of visitors equipped with rolling pins, tin foil hats and the password which I will give some thought to.
Are you listening Karcher and burtha?
I'm sorry that tablet insists on gracing your user name with a capital letter Karcher. It does the same with Fuddle, as you can see. At least it has finally accepted that her name is not cuddle, muddle or puddle so progress of sorts.
ETA. nm, you will be very welcome to see if the reality measures up to the photographs.I believe that friends are quiet angels
