Been AWOL again, too tired to come out to play. And sitting on top of this Fence is making me very stiff and creaky. It's getting kind of boring being a Vase7

Beautiful vases are never boring Ming.
Sorry to have been absent lately. It has all caught up with me. Last week's shenanigans doing all the cooking and arranging of the the funeral buffet has left me pretty exhausted. Looking after David is pretty full on and doing the mini-market on Wednesdays makes me wonder if I'm overdoing it a bit. The trouble is that I enjoy doing all these things and am reluctant to admit that I can't go on doing what I did 10/20/30/40/50/60 years ago.
Never mind. It will all sort itself out in time.
I've tried to read along every so often, but have not retained much. I will try to do better in future.
Hope everyone is enjoying these early Autumn days. My favourite time of the year.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Monna, David needs to realise that you don't have the physical capacity to provide the care he needs. Otherwise, you will be in need of the same care xx2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

If you stop being a vase you'll have to change your username again and it's quite tiring keeping count. How about we make you a nice little niche on the Fence where you can join in without feeling stiff and creaky ? Otherwise you could return as someone OS. I don't recall serial killers in my OS childhood.Well not known to me.You could stay as the vase as an insurance against hard times. No idea if there are still pawn shops but you could probably toddle to Cash Converters if times were tough. That has the disadvantage you'd be stuck in a safe or on a shelf and in danger of ending up who knows where?Maybe see if you can get back as Mardatha. No one I've noticed with that username in recent times. Beeglie is fine as your Avatar although I wouldn't like to go too near her treats, She has that warning look.Weather has been a bit miserable so not so good for pain or low mood. We need to find a way to turn that frown upside down otherwise I may have to sing "Cheer up Charlie" to you. You wont like that , ask my two now grown up younger children. The memories still make them shudder.pollyx

Hope everyone is enjoying these early Autumn days. My favourite time of the year.If you're wondering if you're overdoing things you really are. I've realised over the years it's what you do . You care for those who need a helping hand young or old you've been there for many with a warm hug, wise words and often practical support.I'm probably ten years or so younger than you but could not physically take on those problems nowadays or the worry of how others are coping or not.I've no idea if David's flat is now clear but you mentioned a male friend of his. Is he able to spend some time with David? I know you enjoy seeing the Rev at the mini market so you're best saving energy to do some things for you.Your original plan was to help clear David's flat not look after him. No harm in seeing him from time to time but if he needs care or company perhaps the church could arrange something. I remember SS were to or did an assessment of his wife. There's a lot of demand on services at the moment but it may be worth speaking to him about things. You can't be everything to everyone and I'd like to think you will get your garden the way you planned and your possessions too.One postive thing to come out of the Covid situation is youngest is now coping better than I imagined. Still with her boyfriend and the cats since March 2020. There were a few wobbles but she emailed me this afternoon while she was taking a tiny walk around the block. She'd normally wait for her bf to finish wfh or me to be there but she took herself out for some fresh air and we had a good chat.I worried for years how she would manage if anything happened to me but I believe she'll be fine. Sometimes we need to step back and see what happens, maybe there will be a way ahead for David.pollyx

We def don't want you exhausted monna!! Please ease off a wee bit.Polly I do not want to be pawned!! and I'm dead miffed that anybody *lQQks at Polly* would even suggest such a thing in front of somebody as rare as moi! A niche is a possiblity though, a bit like the Roman shrines. Hmmm. Now do I feel like a Minerva, or Diana, or a Venus.. ???? Lemme ponder it.7

A niche is a possiblity though, a bit like the Roman shrines. Hmmm. Now do I feel like a Minerva, or Diana, or a Venus.. ???? Lemme ponder it.You in the land of the sleepless too Mar? I wasn't intending pawning you just thinking it may be a handy option if you were ever in need.Minerva was the godess of wisdom and the inspiration for poor Helen Forrester in the dreadful years of her growing up in dire poverty. She could never have imagined then that one day there would be a blue plaque on the lovely house across the Mersey she could never go back to in childhood or that one day Liverpool University would award her an honourary doctorate long after she settled in Canada.Well I'll agree you're quite a rarity Mar don't get many like you to the pound. I'm sure we can manage to build you some sort of a shrine if it will shut you up err make you happy. You have a ponder. I've been trying to fall asleep but no sign of the sandman yet.I was thinking of the back garden and my very old Geoff Hamilton rose still flowering away all these years after David Austin named it in memory of Geoff. We were lucky to meet his wife and son Nick at one of the shows probably Harrogate and learn of the memorial DVD planned which would help raise funds for those like Geoff who worked their way into gardening. He's always been my favourite gardener. The first to garden organically and he could build pergolas, seats and all sorts out of a few bits of wood. The memorial dvd covers some of his Barnsdale projects too. Barnsdale has a beautiful memorial garden with snowdrops and spring flowers then masses of the lovely Geoff Hamilton Rose. It's in Rutland but well worth a visit . I could spend all day there and never be bored.Still not sleepy, I'm feeling a bit guilty for shouting at the sainted Ole during yesterday's match but you don't take Ronaldo off when you're in trouble.I can remember my mum watching Percy Thrower on Gardeners World. Geoff was the first gardener I took to but not Joe Swift or Monty Don after his sudden death. Carol Klein is a brilliant gardener as is Alys Fowler but I can't remember when I last watched GW.Think I'll make a hot chocolate and see if that sends me to sleep.Mar is hopefully asleep now, either that or she'll be designing her shrine. I dread to think comes to mind there but we shall see.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

What a lovely post Polly, I could do with wandering in a beautiful rose garden right now. I went back to bed but was still awake at 3am - up at 7 and now off to the dentist.

A sleepless night Ming? And now off to the dentist? You really know how to enjoy yourself. Have a fabulous day and if you think of it would you please mention my missing bit of enamel to the dentist. He might have a spare piece that he could send me to superglue into place.
You are all very kind to be so concerned for me. Yesterday was a bit low and I suddenly felt overwhelmed. Much better today.
My poor old David is non-negotiable I'm afraid. He will be 95 in a couple of months and so frail that a puff of wind would dispatch him. Unfortunately, his great friend has cancer and is not around at the moment. David's mind is as active as ever so we have long, animated chats. It isn't all delving into dusty corners and filling bin bags.
Please don't worry about me, I'm a lot tougher than it might appear. Sorry to have moaned.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive.
But how we improve with practise.I believe that friends are quiet angels

pollyanna_26 - I still have a licence but not driven for over 20 years. We were attending a Church but we feel that The Salvation Army is where we should be. Until you are at the SA - you don't realise just how much work they do and there are always people coming to the door with donations or wanting some sort of help. We have an Afghan family in our town who are being supported.
The lads did well on Saturday.
At least we got an away goal last night.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45
